Some truths are self-evident:
1) That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
2) That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Those are from our Declaration of Independence (obviously), so maybe they aren't recognized everywhere, but here's one that applies no matter what country you're in:
3) That if you lunge at a cop with a bloody knife, you're going to get shot.
Something a friend said to me recently is starting to become my favorite saying, "You just can't fix stupid." You can't expect morons to not act like morons. Kudos to LAPD for not doing to those people what probably would have been done in some of their home countries, namely, shooting indiscriminately into the crowd.
