Almost certainly bucktail. you can get this in any shop with fly fishing supplies (or from one of the hides I tanned!).

I tried to get some kastmaster spoons and didn't realize the overall expense. I have some other sponns, but only with a naked hook. Does anyone know what type of hair they use when dressing the treble? Thanks for the help.

I agree, they use bucktail. i don't see why you couldn't experiment with adding some maribou, tinsel for flash, or feathers just like on a topwater plug. good luck!
in the back of the barlows catalog they have supplies to make flys a lot of the colored buck tail and some colored squirrel hair
been throwing the kastmaster and the economy "k-mart" version for years, all seasons for walleye, stripers, trout and vertical jigging in winter for big spots.....and i can assure you the hair tail does not make a difference. when the hair tail hook gets dull, bent or otherwise unuseable i change it out and put a black matzuo treble on and continue to catch fish just the same as when the hair tail was on it. save yourself some time and money and buy the economy k-mart brand, unless you just want a wintertime project and want to tie the tail on. best of luck
