The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down.....
At 6pm on November 10th, 1975, Capt. Ernest McSorley of the 729-foot behemoth ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald sent a radio message to the USCG "I have a bad list, lost both radars. And am taking heavy seas over the deck," McSorley radioed around 6 p.m. "One of the worst seas I've ever been in."
His desperate attempt to find safety in Whitefish Bay failed at 7:10 pm when the ship dissappeared from radar at a total cost of ship and crew. Not one body was ever recovered.
Be careful out there guys, especially on the big water. No craft is unsinkable.
