Dave- Extra Nice Fishing Report this week

Dave- I always read the report even if I'm not fishing or planning to fish to learn about activity vs. weather patterns and time of year. The report this week was especially insightful. Not particularly a great catching forecast but nevertheless great insight into why the fall pattern migth be off.

Re: Dave- Extra Nice Fishing Report this week

I was there the third week in October and fished for ten days. Experienced first hand how tough this years fall fishing really is. I was waiting to read Dave's report this week before I decided to come down on Sunday for another week of fishing. His report really doesn't sound that good. So.... I guess I'll just have to come down anyway. I know if I concentrate on the "how to catch'em" in Dave's report, I'll do just fine. I don't care how bad the fishing is. This is a great time of year to be on Ky Lake.

Nothing like fall fishing for sure and I'm sure some will be had. I was down 2 weeks ago and found the bite Dave describes. Had a great time hunting for fish and catching a few but could have done just as well on Cumberland and saved 3 hours of driving. Certainly nothing like last year. If I lived in Bowling green though I might go anway.

Re: Dave- Extra Nice Fishing Report this week

Thanks for the kind words about my report. I know that on any given day someone will bust a big bag but in my report I try to look at the overall picture for the week past from what we are doing in my boat and also from all the reports I am receiving from my network here. I also, like in this past week's report will often endeavor to try to forecast what may be coming or explain why the bite is like it is...good or poor. I spend a lot of time putting all this together to try to make my report as accurate as I can each week during the season and it is nice to know folks are reading it.

I do sometimes forget that I spent many years living and fishing in central Ky where a lot of you guys live and that a lot of the time what we here consider a slow day here is a good day there when comparing numbers, size etc....it is all relative...lol.

I certainly am not trying to discourage anyone from coming here for more of the fall bite in my report....just trying to tell it like it is and hopefully give you a better understanding of what is happening and that will assist you in putting more fish in the boat here when you come. One thing that is great about Ky/Barkley is that you always on every cast have the chance to put a really big fish in the boat and can also put some fish in the boat, even on a slow day.

You know, we bass anglers fish for the love and challenge of the sport and the pure enjoyment of the outdoors. Why else would we spend what we do on boats, trucks and equipment to catch a fish that most of us are gonna throw right back in the water if not for these reasons...lol.

Tight lines and come fish the big lakes, the fall is not over yet and for those that have not tried it, there is some very good days to be had here in the winter on the bass too. I do not guide in the winter months and do not post a weekly report during the winter months unless I have enough valid informatin to put one up, but that does not mean that I don't have some information in the winter so if you do come down here in the winter months, feel free as always to contact me to see what is going on...I will do my best to point you in the right direction.

    Dave

Dave there was a gentleman at Bull Shoals who used to have a fishing report much like yours in the fact he ties the fish movement to the shad. He was dead on in his reports and posted every week until winter. He and his wife ran a bait shop and he guided. Unfortunately he passed away several years ago. I can assure you when you lose a good reliable report you understand how great they are. I have never found a lake report that had such good information as your and his.

I have taken several trips and the trips were almost over by the time you had found the patterns and figured out what was going on (of course this was before I took your class on how to eliminate water). Your report gives us the confidence to cut straight to the chase.

    Keep it up.

    Dave
Very well said. My grandmother always asks if I catch any fish. When I say yes she askes where her portion is I say I threw them all back and she just shakes her head.

What I really like about Barkley and Kentucky is that my son and infreqent fishing friends can normally catch at least a few on artificials. Can't make that claim of anywhere in Central Kentucky for sure.

In November 2009, I pulled into a bay on the east side of KYL with a novice fisherman and we landed bass one after another for 90 solid minutes on a sammy. This guys was so happy and had never in his life experienced anything like this. KYL/Barkley is one of a lmited number of lakes where you can find action like this.
