Used too you could go down there and whack the whites and hybrids, but due to over fishing and the practice of catch and eat everything you catch has really hurt the fishing there, as far as not being crowed you just went on an off day, have seen people who wil drift fish the whole length of the spilway and not care about going over you and cutting you off, you are better off this time of year to walk down to the small backwater on the other side of the campground, this time of year thru late feb you an catch some muskies up that little creek. In the summer it is very crowded, you can have some luck by going over the walkway and fishing that little slough over there. But the fishing is not that great there anymore.
