    2 Cycle Oil

I need to purchase some and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

Obviously, there's already oil in the boat, but I don't know what it is so I'm also wondering if mixing is a problem.

I stuck with Johnson's oil when I had a Johnson 2 stroke. I'd stick with Merc's version if I had a merc 2 stroke. "Mixing" an approved oil with what's already in the resevior will not be an issue, in my opinion..

I use penzoil xlf 2 cyl. In gal's--usually bass pro has a sale on this in spring sale--but walmart also carries it. I have been using it for about 3 yrs with no problems.

If the motor is an Evinrude and you want to use Evinrude oil we need to know what type of Evinrude. If it's carburated you can use XD 25 which is a regular oil or you can use XD 50 which is a blend 50% regular oil 50% syenthic or XD 100 which is a 100% syenthic. Choose which one you want. It will not hurt to change types of oil but I would not recommend changing back and forth from type to type pick one and stay with it.

Out of all the above mentioned oils XD 100 is the best because it is 100% pure syenthic. All 100% syenthic oil are made with an ashless formula. 100% syenthic oil does not build up carbon deposits and over a period of time it will actually clean carbon from your motor.

If it was my motor and it was carburated I would run XD 100 *if * I only used a couple of gallons per year. If I burned several gallons per year I would use XD 50 but you can get by with XD 25.The way a carburated motor delivers fuel and oil to the motor is totally different from direct injection motor;which results in less efficent burn and poor fuel/oil economy. If you choose XD 100 in a carburated motor it will be OK but due to the fuel/oil dilivery/combustion system you will not see all the added benifits of a 100% syenthic oil.

If the motor is an Ficht or E-tech (direct injection) it is recommended to run XD 100 but you can get by with XD 50

XD 50 is expensive and XD 100 will cost an arm and leg compared to other oils. With that beng said I run nothing but Amsoil HP Injector oil. It is 100% pure syenthic and cost $26 per gallon. If that is too expensive then I would run Pensoil 100% syenthic. I dont know the exact price but I have been told it is cheaper than Amsoil HP injector oil. Sorry for such a long reply and I hope I did not confuse you. To best answer your question I need to know if your motor is carburated, Ficht or E-tech;then you can get your answer from my above reply.

If your engine is a E-tec and the EMM is set for xd100 then you must use xd100.

If you don't care to run to Herrington Lake Robbie Sargent has it in bulk. (859-792-2088) agt the old Bassmaster Boats building at Jimbo Bryants(Bryants Camp) Can buy it quite a bit cheaper if you take your own jugs.

    Re: 2 Cycle Oil

I run a 04 Merc 50 hp ELPTO and have had good luck with the Pennzoil XLF syn. blend. Also ran about 1 gal of the Walmart stuff through the motor when I first got it (to use up what I had from another boat that I had just sold). Didn't notice a difference when I switched, but the syn blend should help some with carbon buildup, etc. I also add fuel stabilizer every 3-4 tank full, and before storage. Like first2fish said, I usually get a few gals in the spring when Bass Pro puts in on sale.

All is use is Penzoil and i love it plus you can get it for $13 a gallon usually. I would stay away from the Supertech (Walmart ) brand ...my buddy ruined his chainsaw using the Super tech stuff

I use the Pennzoil 100% synthetic. Works for me and I can get it from Wal-Mart.
