    Kerosene Heaters

Looking for info on a good brand name kerosene heater for use in an un-insulated 2 car garage. Approx size 27 x 33 (900-1000) sq ft. Tried a 23,000 BTU and it didn't do much. Would like to stay away from forced air heaters due to the noise. Read a review on a Pro Temp Heater which is forced air, but from some of the remarks it sounded as though it wasn't as loud. Anyone heard of this brand? Cold here today! 16 / wind chill of 6 and were just getting started!

Is the walls cover with dry wall ? What about the celling? is there one in there? If not i would do some insulation first. Styrofoam insulation is the best and easiest to do then fiberglass secound if you dont want to or dont have the cash for dry wall then hang some thick contactor grade plastic over top of it the insulation then your keroseen heater will work just fine..
Dont forget to do the ceiling to as this is were most of your heat will escape..

First~~Thanks for the suggestions. What I have is concrete walls on two sides, dry wall(insulated) on one side and dry wall (insulated) on 8' ceiling, two garage doors w/ Styrofoam board each door. Do they make a kerosene heater rated above 23,000 BTU? The round kind is what I'm looking for.

23,000 btu is fairly large for a heater that is rated for indoor use. When you get up into the 50,000-100,000 btu models they will be forced air models but are usually rated for outdoor use only. The big consideration here is to purchase a heater you can use indoors. The other option would require you to leave the garage door open at least partially for ventalation.

Another option you may consider is propane. Propane burns cleaner and you can get models with high BTU output than can be used indoors (1000,000 btu + range). Northern Tool has several propane heaters for garages/warehouse use. The down size is you will have to have a spot for a propane tank outside or use portable tanks. Most propane service companies will let you use a tank if you buy propane from them. If you have access to natuaral gas you may have even more options for heating your garage.

Kerosene would be my choice for emergency limited use heating that would just warm the space up to a marginally tolerable leval. Anything over 23,000- 30,000 btu in kerosene will probably require outside ventalation.
