"We've become a nation of wussies!"

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/s...=ESPNHeadlines

    Read this article.

I don't care for snow and slick roads either, but it seems to me like more and more we cancel everything because of it. It snows a few inches and we act like it paralyzes us. We cancel church, ballgames, businesses close...and we couldn't POSSIBLY come to work...

I can remember my Grandfather shaking his head and talking about how snow never kept him from going where he intended on going, even with a little 2wd truck and a rear-wheel-drive car in the driveway. "Hell, we dug out of a foot of snow and traveled 30 miles on a 2-lane road that would have been closed these days...just to see a UK basketball game. We lived."

A couple of weeks ago, I looked out to a few inches of snow, ice covered roads...and all I had to get me from A to B was a lowered Mustang GT with summer tires. It wasn't ideal, but by God I got where I needed to go.

I can understand living up in the mountains or way out in the country and having an ill-equipped vehicle - You aint gonna get where you need to be. But for those in the city, where roads are pre-treated hours before the event, snow plows are moving about soon after the snow flies...you can get there barring an epic storm. Now, the road might get a little bumpy or your poor wittle tootsies might get chilled, but you'll live. Put on a coat, pull on your boots, shovel your way out if you have to, and get moving...wussies!!!!!!

Just curious if you have bolony skins for tires? Not that it matters because Mustangs, Camaro's and anything rear-wheel drive pretty much stinks under ice and snow conditions. The wife and I had a Camaro SS a few years ago, the main reason we got rid of it was because the price of those low profile 17" tires was outrageous. Didn't mean to change the subject...sorry.

They were low profile. 245/45-19. I popped one back in the summer with a nail and it cost me $265 to replace it...and I work for a tire company. Not cool.

I had a '99 model with 245/45-17. They definitely aren't ideal on snow and ice. No matter how lightly I could feather the gas, it was spin city! You had to calculate your moves...

Wonder if the NFL was worried about potential lawsuits? These days you can be sued for about anything!! Lawyers are hungry for ways to earn a buck and I'm sickened to see what they are allowed to waste our legal system on.
I actually like to take the pickup out in the snow and have fun in 2wd. The atv is even better!
If it rains people get stupid around here much less snow!

I have spent time up north and have been through some big blizzards. Everybody had a set of tire chains and when the snow came you put them on, drove at reduced speed for conditions and no problems.

Around here they put that salt on the roads so you put your chains on in the morning and you have to take them off at noon because the salt has exposed the pavement. Then after dark you have black ice everywhere.

The ice is the real hazard. This last ice came on top of a couple of inches of snow and that was good because the ice broke up when you drove on it. Chains are the only thing that will help ice driving.

I wish they would spread sand/cinders instead of salt. when the snow gets packed on the roads with sand/cinders and you have your chains on ther is no problems driving where you need to go. You could leave your chains on for for a few days or a week.

The salt does nothing but eat up your car, cause black ice in poorly drained areas, cost out the wazoo. Probably want to use it on well drained interstates, but for local traffic lets use sand/cinders.

kydon, I believe that you're spot on!

    No problem driving on snow...

I've talked to people through work who live in Michigan, Minnesota, upstate NY, etc. They have school and act like it's not a big deal with 8-10-12" of snow on the ground.

Coming from the lake effect area of In, I know about driving in snow. But when the TV and radio asks y7ou to stay off the roads its not cause of the wuzzies. Its to get the roads plowed, the streets cleaned and so forth. Many folks understand that and listen, then theres the "I can drive on snow" crowd" So they can most of the time, but oncethey become stuck, and block a road, the problems start. I wont drive my truck on any trip up north in the winter, I'll rent a ft. wheel car.Our 4x4 diesel was even stuck on an off ramp for two hrs till we finally got some yahoo off the ramp. The problem down here is not as many folks do drive smartly even on dry roads.Chains?if you can find them, and try to jack car up with these hidden tire racks, they dont work on ice that well either.

I hope this guy runs for governor. I totally agree with what he's saying. We cancel everything at the slightest inconvenience. If the people decided - ON THEIR OWN - it was too dangerous to go to the game, then they would have had the option of staying at home.

Our schools (i.e. the government) are really the ones starting this.

I think we should have the teachers drive snow plows, salt trucks or otherwise work to make the roads better so the schools can open quicker.

One of those days in December where there was ice coming down, our office decided to "close". I work in a small office and everyone has a key. If you're not manufacturing, how can you say you are "closed". I went into work. Most of my coworkers who live closer than I do stayed home.

He already is the governor of Pennsylvania, used to be the mayor of Philadelphia. He's right, watching the Eagles play the Vikings in a blizzard was something people would have loved. You know what I miss about football? You hardly ever get to see them play in snow and mud any more. Everything's artificial turf and indoors. I loved watching the Bears lose to the Patriots a couple weeks ago. Yeah, it was a blowout, and I didn't even care about the outcome, but it was cool watching them play in the blowing snow.

Speaking of which, I know not many of you all are hockey fans, but you might want to check out the Winter Classic scheduled to be played Saturday outdoors at Heinz Field between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. It's always fun to watch them playing outdoors in the weather, and the players get a charge out of it, too. They say it takes them back to when they were kids playing pond hockey. Fun to watch.
