Dix River 2 Apr 11
Put in at Bryants and ran up in to Dix River. I only went just a little past Murphys Bottoms up in the river. When I put the boat in the water temp around Bryants Camp was 52 and the further I went up in to the river the colder it got. At Murphys Bottoms it was 48. Seen several boats Trolling and casting of the whites and crappie fishing. I talked to several guys in boats and like me thay had not caught a fish. Around 2 oclock I did what I told my self I needed to be doing all day, and went back to the 52 degree water. I dont know if it was the water temp difference or just the time of day but around 3 pm I started to catching crappie, not a lot, but enough for me to have a big fish dinner Sunday night.
Dix River water temp this past Sat: 48
Bryants Camp water temp: 52
Fish started biting for me on minows around 5 to 8 foot deep, really close to cover, in about 10 foot of water. I would only catch 1 or 2 fish on each log that I fished. I found one spot that held a few more fish, but as soon as the wind pushed the boat close to it and I hit the trolling motor to get off the area I never caught another fish out if it.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the report! I love fishing that part of Herrington. What was the water color like? Is the trash from the recent high water settled down? Thanks for any additional info. Going to hit Herrington soon...Just hoping these winds and temperatures settle down soon

The water was not stained up in the river but the warmer water was. I only seen a bunch of stuff floating in one place up in the river, but after tonight who know what it will look like.

What type of cover do you normally fish around near Bryants? I've fished this area several times, I only live a few miles away but never have any luck. Do you fish submerged cover and stumps or just fish the stickups and cover that you can see? Thanks, I've also heard reports that the crappie are really starting to bite on the dam end of the lake.

I look for the old logs that are sticking out of the water and a few brush pile that i seen when the water was really low.
HHope this helps some
