Through the years I have always gone fishing no matter the weather (more so years ago) just to get a fix for the addiction. This year I have decided to go even more and fished on some cold, cloudy windy days or worse...cold sunny windy days!
Point is, I have been catching some nice fish doing this and just fishing with what nature blows my way. Just been a nice reminder that any time is a good time to go fishing.

The best time to go fishing is when you can.
The only time I don't fish is when ponds and lakes are iced over. Otherwise I fish all year round.
I won't fish during lighting storms and also avoid fishing during heavy rains. I got caught in a heavy rain in my john boat once and was lucky to make it to shore before it filled up with water. Not fun.
Im up for any weather fishing except for during lightning storms or below 40 degrees. I cant concentrate with lightning striking all around me or soo cold that my a$$ freezes to the boat seat---lol
Lightning ain't any fun but when I was younger I did it anyway. Fishing Central Florida for 20 years kinda got me used to the storms but I was in my 20's-30's and ten feet tall and bullet proof....and stupid.
I don't remember the Hurricane but we fished stick marsh/farm 13 canals when one of the storms was spinning right off the coast and caught a bunch of bass but it was WINDY!!
Living here in Lex I have cut holes in the ice to fish or broke ice with the jon boat to get out and did pretty good. Also fished high and muddy water, flooded picnic table areas, flooded parking lots and hailstorms here in KY after all if you don't like the weather here just wait a minute....it will change.
I kinda like getting out in the odd weather...you never know what's biting till you give it a shot.
The best time to fish is when you're with Tyme2fish.
I make everybody look good compared to my abilities.![]()
Whenever I can go is when I go....I find that to be the best time for me!
With as busy as I am it's a wonder that I go at all. One of these days this life of mine is gonna slow down (I think...I hope), problem is once it does there'll probably be something else to keep me from going fishing as often as I'd like. If there are guys out there who are taking two fishing trips per month like clock work I'd like to know how they do it. Two trips, 48 hours minimum per trip.
The only time I do not like to go fishing is when its' windy...can't stand fishing in the wind, casting in the wind, trying to control the boat in the wind, etc...wind and me don't get along. I've done it, and I'll do it again simply because when it's my time to go I go, but if I had a choice fishing in the wind would be my last choice.
Tim,
I take alot of 4-5 hour trips to the local lakes or creeks and it puts the fire out for fishing and I can still get stuff done. I don't have the time for 12 hour days gone from the house anymore. I did at one time but know it takes more planning for me to leave that long.
Tyme,
For sure the best tyme to fish is when it's tyme2fish!Good luck on those Smallies.
Hurricane Bob......need I say more![]()
I fished today it was high 40s with a steady 10-20 wind straight off a polar bears butt. We caught 11 fish with 4 in the 14-17in range in 6 hours of fishing. Not many boats on the lake.
I'm thinking I'm kind of in the same boat as you....I go to the farm pond every now and then and it kind of "knocks the edge off" so to speak. I've also been blessed enough to have (2) three day guided trips to Dale Hollow two times per year (once in the spring, once in the fall) that someone else picks up the tab for...so this too knocks the edge off. Even still....I feel like I should be hitting the lake once every two or three weeks for a minimum of 48 hours each trip.Tim,

Maybe in the next life.
I do mostly pond fishing; there are several ponds near my house that I go to in the evening for an hour or two. If I have 4-5 hours; I like to take my Kayak to a larger pond nearby, Harrods Creek, Floyds Fork, or Long Run Lake. If I have longer and have a buddy that can go, I may take the Kayak to an all day run down Floyds Fork or Elkhorn or I take the John Boat to Guist Creek or Taylorsville Lake. And if I have a few days, maybe I can get a trip to Kentucky Lake or Dale Hollow.
Like the saying on the fishing show I watch; "so many fish, so little time".
Just got to make time when we can. We may have different boats but we are all in the same boat when it comes to hours in the day.
