Hey everyone, few questions

Hey guys, back into fishing season but its kinda hard for me since im only 15 and i cant do much since my dad usually works so we can only go on weekends/some weekdays.

I got a few questions i figured i would put into one thread. So here we go...

1. I have had a slow 2011 fishing, i usually fish for cats and largemouth bass, but bass of latley, what have they been hitting? I caught a 8lb off a worm last year and there not hittin it!

2. Can you use any oil on a baitcaster reel? I am about to clean mine, but don't have acual reel oil on me.

3. Which line do you all use on your bait casters? Im pretty good with them, but wouldn't call myself a expert. I use TrileneXL 12lb Flourescent.

Kevin, I don't know if you're fishing from the bank or a boat. I would continue with the worm you have confidence in. But also maybe a lizard, tube, chigger craw, spinnerbait and crankbait. Good luck and good fishing!

Well thank you, i will try some of those new things but i agree with you. I often fish off bank, but i can say i do fish off boats. I plan on buying one senior year :P

hey Kfed5, all those baits will work, but it's not so much of what it is were, the fish should be on the shallow banks, some sort of hard bottom for spawning, rock, gravel, clay, or beside a stump, it should have a good deal of sun also, good luck and keep trying and you will fish yourself into some good bass.

3/16oz Spot remover hooks, Zoom lil critter craw. Cast and drag back - hold on. I will tell you Kevin stick with the dragging baits and become the best you can with them because it is hard to beat a good worm fisherman. Pay attention to each cast - where you casted it and count down from when the lure hits the water till you feel it hit bottom (1-mississippi, 2 mississippi etc..) your bait should fall about 1 foot per minute so you will know how deep you are fishing so you can repeat over and over. I cannot tell you to drag the baits slow enough trust me SLOW DOWN, I was fishing last night with the critter craw from my dock and got a phone call and while i was answering the call my bait was sitting still and a 3 pounder ran off with it.

Keep your weights as light as you can as long as you can feel bottom on the whole retrieve if not step up a little heaviertill you can.. Just remember that most guys that are pretty good fisherman all started with a little ole rubber worm......

Thank you sir. Whats funny is i agree with sticking with the worm. I used to NEVER use worms. of course im only 15, but one day i decided to try one out. So i went and bought a new baitcaster, and a pack of purple with green and black sparkles and caught me a 8lb bass.

NEVER give up on the worm!! Soft plastics are probably the most used lure out there. Yeah, there's days they don't want it, but over time you'll catch more fish on soft plastic than any other lure.

I have had luck so far this year on plastic worms, small cranks and lipless cranks. As far as your baitcaster, the type of line you should use depends on what fishing style you are using. For an all around effective line, I would recommend 14lb Sunline. I have only seen it sold at Bass Pro, but if you can't get up there you could always have your father order it online for you.

1. Tubes, chigger craw, baby brush hog, bandit cranks have been working for me.
2. Reel oil depends on the brand of reel you own...quantum reels require the red grease/oil and just about all other reels use the clear grease/oil. However, the ardent brand of grease/oil works for all.
3. I like the regular stren mono line. 12 to 14 lb test in the green color. I think the fluorescent color you're using isn't helping you much...unless you're fishing at night and using a black light.
