Question barren state park ramp pls read and reply

I have spoken with the deputy commisioner of parks for the state of Kentucky. They feel that the state park ramp at Barren River Lake is a safety hazard to open. They state due to all the underwater obstruction it is to unsafe due to high water. Also because of the light pole and guide wire there. Also rememebr the Corp still has ramps open for the lake to be used. I was wondering what everone thoguht on this matter. Also how do you feel about the marina putting a floating dock acroos the ramp to block it. I feel this is a safety hazard what happens if emergency personal need to gain access at this ramp. I want everyone to reply and repost if you agree it should be open join me in the fight with the state and the park manager. It was mainly up to the park manager and has went beyond them. For the guys that come out of town how does this bother you on staying somewhere with this ramp closed. So if you want to inbox me to recieve the emails that have been sent back and forth feel free just need your email. Also feel free to contact them about your local lake if there is a issue. They have complained about fisherman taking up the whole parking area at many ramps but I feel with taxes and what we spend to luxury boaters they need to way the whole thing out. We spend money on gas baits and more year around there summer weekend boaters do not spend near what we do in tax and income.

I actually agree with them \..... it is unsafe to open besides there are other ramps without the hazards. Taxes also pay for people to have some sence when we dont

A fisherman pays nothing to luunch their boat there and is way to smart to buy the 5 dollor plus per gallon of gas so dont it make sence to cater to the houseboat owners there? so they still have parking spots??
its not like we paid for the ramp or the fishermen bring money in for the local venders ..........
uhhh wait a min ! dont our fishing licence fund this sort of thing?
and tournaments bring money to the local bussiness?
its their loss i try my best to stay away from the state ramp if possible
for the simple reason they dont care about the fisherman or the family trying to enjoy themselves its all about the money

That ramp is free the others are not. Open her up.

Folks launch boats at Walnut creek in the winter time on the gravel bank between stumps. Where is the outcry then?

I think they do have a valid point about it being unsafe. But it is unsafe for a lot of people trying to launch there. Plenty of jack wagons try to launch 30 foot cabin cruisers with a chevy tahoe there. Some of the funniest things I have ever seen have happened at that boat ramp. Probably a few marrieages ended because of events there as well.

Don't open it back up so I can launch. Open it back up so I can watch other people try to launch.

If its unsafe keep it closed. If it is safe open it up. The guy that owns the marina has been in hot water before over several parking lot/ramp issues. It is a State Ramp. He does not own it, allthough he tries at times. I dont see any reason fighting over something that is unsafe.

So the 5 bucks is an issue? How much does your boat cost? How about your fishing tackle? This is insane thinking, we spend hundreds on tackle, thousands on boats and complain about a 5 buck launch fee.Want to save money, fish from shore its free! There are other ramps on barren, there are other lakes in Ky, there are even other states hate the nfive bucks, how about 20 a launch on some lake michigan sites.

It is unsafe. The boats roaring in and out of the ramp also will damage the marina without a break wall, most boaters think it is all about them and don’t care about anyone else’s property. The state park also is differently funded than the COE. If you tear up the corps property they have deeper pockets. Parking is also an issue, as soon an s it is open there will be a 200 boat tourney out of there that puts people parking in no parking spaces again it is not all about you or the house boaters, it is about safety. Just because in your mind there is more of an inconvenience than a risk don’t make it so

What exactly is unsafe about it? I have launched my boat no problem off a flooded road or a gravel bank. If it is about the turn-around being underwater, there are many instances that it has been underwater and the ramp open.

Just because the ramp is open does not mean you shouldn't use your better judgement and not launch if you are not comfortable with your rig or your skill given the conditions. If you need a turn around and a 50 foot wide ramp you might be best to just wait. But by closing the ramp they are closing off a fair section of the lake for people with smaller boats who do not want to or are able to run from Bailey's up Peter Creek or up the lake.

The backside of that marina is always unprotected from the wakes of boats going into and coming out of Peter Creek. The newest expansion of the marina is unprotected by the break wall.

I don't guess I understand why it should remain closed.

no the marina is not exposed to the wakes except for a small part. There are wave breaks all around the added on part as well as the mouth of peters. there is no protection at all on the ramp side now and it dont take much to rake up thousands of dollars in damages, broken cables, water lines ,and boat damage from rough wakes. The inconvience is short term but damage can be long term. I bet it dont open back up till the lower lot that protects the marina just like last year.

So the marina getting beat up is what is unsafe?

How does that ramp being closed prevent wakes from any other boat going up and down the lake?
