hey guys, i been dying to get on the river. I want to go tonight and catfish, but i got a few questions.
1. Hows the water level? Is it rising?
2. Hows the catfish bite?
3. Is it fishable?
Thanks in advance!

Probably just westport. Its the only place i know of, without a boat.
I've been catching lots of catfish by accident on soft plastics up in the creeks - all channel cats. I believe they are getting ready to spawn. All the ones I've caught were around good sized rocks/riprap.
River is coming up a little. Catfish must be up in the creeks, because they are not around in the main river channel. If you like catching Hybrid striped bass...they are stacked at the dams. Bank fish the rocks and sandy banks out of the main current, at Markland or Mcalpine. The hybrids are staging to spawn. To muddy for grubs, try nitecrawlers on a carolina rig 2-3 oz. Good luck!
Your absolutly right about them coming into creek channels. I was at green river last weekend, and it was moving swift, so i fished the channel of the river and creek, and thats where i caught them.
i couldnt find any bass at the McAplin dam at all the past two weeks. No luck there yet.
hey skipjack, hybrids dont spawn, should'nt mislead people like that. species is man made.
My bad.
Never assume...I thought that they were fat with row, guess not. Nothing at Mcalpine last night except a few drum and small cats. Lots of current, i'm headed back to Markland.
i wanna go out tonight. Try my new baitcast reel w/ clicker, i can fish at night now.
