The Italians have finally started dealing in USA with Tackle warehouse... Ike uses alot of their lures. They released a bait called Supernato at I-CAST 2010... its a smaller wake bait (2.75 inches) with frog hooks. Its designed to be ran through heavy cover. The head of the lure is hard like a crank, and the rest of the body is soft like a hollow frog. also has the rubber strands for legs... I ordered one last night and thankful I did as TW is already sold out of it.
Looking forward to giving it a try and will provide a review for you guys. I will have it for bluegrass/otter this weekend when I go out with Paul.
In the mean time heres the link to the bait on TW http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Molix...e-MOLXNTO.html,
If you type "Molix Supernato" on youtube they have videos of the bait on there. Good luck trying to understand them, as they dont speak any english. it looked good and like a killer way to present a frog.
Alright, didnt get to make it in to Evansville this weekend but I still took this bait out on Deem Lake and a local pond.
1) It went deeper than I anticipated, like 4-6 feet. I expected it to be a wakebait. It will run shallow if you reel it painfully slow. Practically Impossible to keep within the top 6 inches on a 7:1.
2) Not weedless in any way. It hangs up in all of the same places your regular crank would. It maybe wouldnt take weeds from the bottom like a treble, but if the bill is digging into the ground your going to pick them up anyways.
3) Body isnt as soft as I would have liked. I got a couple of hits and didnt even have time to react to set a hook.
Summary: It looked like a neat item, but doesnt revolutionize anything. The only place I could see this effective is weed free stumps and trees where the crank can get stuck on branches in the water. Doesnt do anything particularly well. I would rather throw a crank for crank purposes and a frog for frog purposes. Overall I would not recommend to anyone here. I would score it a 4/10.
