I'm going to the river in all this heat this afternoon. Going to meet up with a friend I haven't seen or fished with in a long time.
Got plenty of cold drinking water and the boat is hooked up and ready to travel.
I hope I can catch bait with no more than 3 throws cause this heat is going to sap my strength mighty quick.

Should be no problem gettin bait at the stink hole Tyme. One cast last Fri. and I had to let some out to get the net over the side of the boatLet us know how you do Chuck.
Man it was a hot one....kind of curious how you did ESPECIALLY since we had one heck of a nice storm blow through here around 5:00 or 6:00.
We left the New Albany ramp at about 1630 hours and went down river to the stink hole to catch some bait. I managed to catch only one small bluegill. My net was opening fine, I just wasn't throwing it where the fish were.
We then tried to motor back up river. The wind had picked up and the river had white caps and 3 to 4 feet rollers. I was motoring slowly trying to judge the waves when I came down one wave and plowed into the bottom of the following wave. The nose of my 18ft Stratos turned into a submarine bow and the water came crashing over my windshields. The bilge pump came on and we were soaked from head to toe. I managed to submarine another wave very shortly thereafter. I just looked over at my fishing friend and smiled. Thought for a moment someone was filming "Deadliest Catch".
We finally reached the calmer waters in front of the hydros and anchored. The bilge pump ran for a steady 10 minutes.
I put that bluegill on my hook and in less than 2 minutes caught a flathead. We then had to resort to the liver we brought as a standby and I caught 2 channel cats.
That's when I noticed some shad jumping along the Kentucky bank. We pull up anchor and motor towards the shore and I caught 5 shad on my first throw of the castnet. Caught a few more so we go back to "our spot" and anchor once again.
During most of the trip it rained and yes we did have quite a bit of lightning and thunder, along with the rain. We weren't going to get any wetter than we did from the waves, so we just kept fishing.
I managed to catch 3 flatheads, 2 channels, and 1 blue. My friend finally caught a nice white using the head of one of the shad we netted.
I got my navigation lights out early and we had a pleasant ride back to New Albany with the rain pelting my eyeballs as I steered us back towards the ramp.
I have yet to clean out my boat. I have to open all the hatches and dry out the interiors and the contents.
All in all........a fun and eventful day of fishing.![]()
Nice report Tyme!
I bet that your view of the lightning from the river was awesome . . .
