    Mcalpine dam fishing help

I just started fishing the upper dam some the past few weeks. Been fishing off the fossil beds on the kentucky side some. Tried the hydros a little and the lower dam too.
    Totally amazing place.
Just wanted to start a thread here and see what kinda help anyone can offer up.
New to the site as well. Googled some stuff on Mcalpine and got a few links to this site, so I thought I'd check it out for real.
    I live in Lanesville, IN.

Havnt fished for cats yet. been kinda focusing on hybrids and strippers.

BTW. Havnt fished in 12 yrs. So I will be preety green on some stuff for a while. But am hooked for sure on the fishing down there.

Whats the word right now on what to do? been getting there between 4-5 am. and they seem to bite for a while. but then shut down quick.

never have fished at Mcalpine but have fished the dam at cannelton down river seems like after 10 oclock fish go deep. Try going on a cloudy rainy day they will bite all day. try catching some small skipjack for bait to catch larger rockfish.

Early in the morning and in the evening into the night. Evening when the sun hits the top of the trees is good.

I've fished the Falls some. I normally use white curly tail grubs. Casting one of those will catch you almost anything - drum, white bass, sauger, largemouth, and smallmouth. I like to cast into the white water where the water comes off the rocks into deeper water. The fish tend to hang near those white water spots waiting for food to roll off the rocks into their face.

For hybrids, a Zara Spook works well. Anytime I've caught them, it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time, with the right current.

Man, ain't that the truth. One day you're in heaven at the falls, the next day nadda.
