    jackplate... adjust?

i was told that my motor may be sitting a little bit low and i may have to adjust my jack plate... where should it be? any help would be much appreciated!

reason i'm wondering if its a jackplate issue is i have a 1996 21 foot stratos and a 225 johnson motor and a 24 pitch raker prop i'm running in perfect conditions 62 mph any other thoughts of what can get me to go a lil faster?

I would start at 3 1/2 inches below the pad. Also you may not have a big enough prop. Depending on rpms you are getting at wot.

i woould think it would handle more than a 24 pitch, maybe a 26 or so would be my guess, but it all depends on the boat, weight, and load, etc. trial and error is the key.i would raise the plate until you lose performance(or gain) and see where it falls off, then back down 1/2 inch and go from there.

this may be obvious but, watch your water pressure as you go up.

start with your anti-ventilation plate even with your bottom

    Re: jackplate... adjust?

On a stratos boat with a 225HP you probably should be turning around 6100RPM and you should be turning at least a 25pitch Prop. To start I would call the motor manufactuer to find out Max RPM and while you have them on the phone ask what prop runs the best with that motor. Then you need to put a level on the pad of your boat while someone lowers or raises the jack to make it level. Lay the level on the ground making sure it's level and measure from it to your pad and then from it to cavitation plate and raise your motor. I would start at 2 1/2". Run it BUT make sure you watch your WATER PRESSURE. Watch RPM's and do not go above the Max. That is a good hull and it should run in the HIGH 60's maybe LOW 70's. Hope it helps you

thank you all for your advice i ended up raising the jack plate up about an inch... i went from 5000 rpm's to about 5600 water pressure is still good also gained around 4-5 mph as well running about 65 wide open... thanks again for all your input!! i think the next thing for me to do would be to get a bigger prop and i dont have 300 to bu a used one!

    once again thank you all!!
