    Dale Hollow suggestions...?

The wife is going to a training conference at the lodge at Dale Hollow the last week of August, and asked if I want to go along and try fishing. Heck yeah! I've never been to the lake, and wonder if anyone has any tips or suggestions. The closest that I have to a boat is my canoe. Since it has been so hot, I wondered if there are any lighted docks that allow fishing. Also wondered about fishing below the dam...
I am not picky about species, but I try to use a flyrod when I get the chance.

Thanks in advance for any info.

could put in canoe at state ramp and work your way around in the no wake zone. some big gills in there and smaller bass. if you wanted to be more adventurous, you could head out from state marina and go left -> several smaller coves with gills and smaller bass that have some protection from wake. good luck and be careful.

My wife and I have a place in Byrdstown, TN and avoid the lake during the summer. We fish the Cumberland and Obey rivers during this time of year. Our choice of river for the day depends on the generation schedule. The Obey River, below the DH dam, can be some great fishing, especially trout. There is a great place to launch your canoe at the state park just below the dam. it is a very short paddle from the ramp to the dam. The park also has several piers you can fish from. If fly fishing, I have no clue what to tell you to use. If using your spinning outfit, use #2 blue fox spinners. Silver, gold and firetiger work best. We have caught several species of fish there. Good luck.

Obey River into Cumberland River and fish for Stripers. Live shad or 6"-10" swimbaits. Fish it early in the morning. Several in the 20-35 pound range being caught down there right now. Uhhhhh, I guess that would get real interesting from a canoe wouldn't it...

I'm really looking forward to this trip. Just wish it wasn't so short.
    Thanks for the suggestions!

    Re: Dale Hollow suggestions...?

The fishing was a bust. I put the canoe in at the state park ramp at first light, and went back into some of the coves/creeks, couldn't get any hits. Around 9 a.m. a breeze got stirred up, and my canoe may as well have been a sailboat. I gave it up and went back to the ramp. I could see lots of snails on the lake bed around the ramp, so I got some red-worms to try and get some shellcrackers. The only fish I got were dinks not even as long as my finger.
I found out that the dam and tailwaters is in TN, and I didn't feel like buying a TN license.
Oh, well. The weather was sunny and beautiful. I went for a hike and ended up crossing the line into Tennessee. Saw a herd of turkeys with poults. All in all, it was better than staying home and going to work.
