    Colorclector

I got a colorclector as a gift and was wondering if anyone has one. Is it useful to use on selecting the colors on lures to use that day for fishing or wasting my time using it. It says to check every so often during the day as water clarity could change during the day so could be changing lure colors a few times each day. Was just wondering if it is a useful tool in helping you with your fishing. Thanks for everyones input.

    Re: Colorclector

It's not something I would spend my money on but It'd be a pretty cool gift. I only have 2 rules when it comes to my color selection. If the water has good visibility I use natural colors. If it's not so clear I use either a bright color or black.

I did see a show one time where Jimmy Houston and Roland Martin were first trying out different colors to see what the bass were hitting and then using the the colorclector to see if it matched up and it did everytime. Could have been a marketing gimmick but according to them it was a good quality product.

First time I used one I won a tournament, but never had much luck since then so I think the word "luck" played a roll on the win.

    Re: Colorclector

Bought the Color-C-lector when it first came out (1970's ? ) .... then upgraded to the Combo-C-lector ( color/temp/pH) when that came along. Seemed like most of the time that I went fishing & used it, it would tell me to use a color that I was already using & had confidence in ..... Blue/chartreuse !!
The biggest "problem" with them, then & now, IMHO .. is that you need to know how deep the fish are BEFORE you put the probe down to test for what color(s) are most visible at that depth. If I know how deep the fish are ... I can pretty well guess what colors to use, since I'm imitating the color of the foodsource that the fish would most likely be feeding on, at that depth.
IMHO - it's part gimick & part science. IF it was a major factor in the catching of fish, you'd see the boats of the Pro's decked out with one & them using it !! And I'm not talking about just those Pro's sponsored by the company ... but, all/most of them !!

    ... pappy
