Hit the creek this morning for a couple hours with some Strike King Bitsy Tubes. I've been excited all week about these things because I knew they would produce... and they did. I ended up with 5 smallmouth, 1 largemouth, and 6 rock bass. Almost had my first ky sheep head but it got off and I even had one smallmouth hooked that would have probably been my biggest of the year but broke my line about 3 feet from me (my own stupid fault for not having my drag set properly) but I'm telling you guys this thing was somewhere between 3 1/2 and 10 lbs.![]()

Sheep head? What are you calling a sheep head? I know of the salt water Sheep Head never heard that term of a fish here in Ky. Is it like a Mountain Tarpin?Hit the creek this morning for a couple hours with some Strike King Bitsy Tubes. That reminds me of what my wife says, "Only a man would think that a 6 inch fish is actually a 12 inch fish". LOL
Coombro .... I'm thinking he's referring to a Freshwater Drum. Back when I was a teenager, I heard them called White Perch ... and didn't find out any different until I was a LOT older LOL!!
And I've also heard them called "sheephead".
But .... what are YOU calling Mountain Tarpin ?? I've heard of Tenn Tarpin (Skipjack Herring) ... would that be the same ?? They will eat a minnow, Crappie jig, or small crankbait ... as my fishing partners & I found out, many years ago, while fishing Watts Bar Lake in E Tenn.
... pappy
Yeah I'm talking about a freshwater drum. That's what my dad always called them so growing up that was the only name I ever heard for them. I actually didn't even here "freshwater drum" till a couple years ago. And the only reason I said "ky" sheephead is because I'm from Ohio (just moved here last spring) so I have yet to catch one in the state of ky.
