When that happens, I just get the tip replaced. I take my rods to a guy who does custom rod work, and he matches up the new tip to the old one so it's as good as new and you can't tell that it was ever replaced.

got an high priced rod i have had for a few years and notice sunday the tip has a groove inside the eye that is fraying my line. just wondering if there is anyway to fix it without replacing the whole tip. seems that when i have replaced tips before the rod just never is the same. didnt know if there is something u could do to the eye to fill in the groove and maybe file or sand down smooth again? dont know just wondering! thanks to all.

Dependent upon how close you are to Evansville, but American Legacy does rod repair.
If you take your tip off you can take it to a tackle shop and match it up, to make sure you get the right size, color etc.
Most tips can be easily removed with a little heat from a lighter and easily reinstalled with guide epoxy and lighter. As long as your careful you can usually remove the tip and avoid disturbing the wrap so that when you replace it, it hardly looks affected.
Fuji Makes great guides IMHO
Haven't seen anything yet that you can use to fill the gap and get good results from. The best suggestion has already been mentioned by another member...buy a new, properly sized, tip top to replace it with. The installation process is simple, but you just need to make sure you buy the correct size tip top to fit your rod. If you have a high dollar rod, then it's probably a good idea to stay away from the repair kits available at "super stores" as they include cheaper (and usually incorrectly sized) tip tops. You can go to a rod repair shop or you can order anything you need from mudhole.com
