depth is not what i would be concerned with. it would be the length of the float. seems like a long day trip.

I've never floated this stretch of Elkhorn. Plan on putting in near Longview golf course in Scott County and floating to Switzer on Election Day.
Anyone know how many portages, if any, I should be expecting? The creek should be about at normal depth and flow for this time of year by that time. I know once I get fairly close to Switzer depth is no problem, but I don't know the upcreek area very well...anyone?

Length is not a problem.
If I'm not mistaken I think there is one dam to portage over from galloway to switzer.
Thanks!
I grew up fishing this stretch of the creek. Nlex104 is correct there is one dam about a mile below Woodlake rd. Their is some real nice smallmouth below that dam. Once you go below that dam the fishing really picks up. It is all private land from there to Switzer covered bridge. Good luck and give us a report.
Good luck, John! You sure picked a great day for the creek!!! Send a report!
That is a LONG way.....Good luck..
Our transportation fell through so ended up fishing about 2-3 miles above Switzer. Caught about 20 total--10 smallmouth and the rest KYs and largemouth. Biggest about 16". Lost one brownie at the boat that was bigger. Suspending jerkbaits and jigs were the ticket. Water had to be dead slack to get bit. Smljaw it indeed was an awesome day to be out.
After paddling 2-3 miles upstream in a canoe, I figure my back should be normal about December...
