I used a 7 ft Shimano Crucial heavy action,65lb Power Pro braided line, and a 7 to 1 Shimano Curado. I used swim baits and grubs on 1/4 oz heads with a 1/2 oz head on the center wire. Looks great and was bad at all to cast.
    Good luck.

Just curious...you use a 7.1:1 ratio reel to throw the A-Rig?! I would think a lower gear ratio would work better, like a 5.8:1 or something similar in the 5:1 range. Just because of the weight of the rig, over time that 7.1:1 will be overworked. Just my thoughts.

7'6 heavy rod on a 7:1 reel....if you the A rig comes in contact with the bottom it will be hung....I like the faster ratio to keep it up off the bottom....atleast 60lb braid

To my knowledge it is not illegal in TN. You can only have 3 hooks, not five.

I use 7'6" Heavy with a 6.2:1 real, and diffently keep it off the bottom it will get hung, I ran 80lbs braid just in case you do get it hung up, and bassmasters rang an article online that talks about what states it is illegal in, and TN is listed due to there snagging law. Read the article it will make it more clear.

    Re: alabama rig set up

It isn't illegal, per say. I rig my umbrella rigs with hookless baits aside from the stinger bait. That's perfectly legal in TN. I've seen stripers rip an umbrella rig to shreds when you get more than one on. Bass are much different so I can understand leaving the hooks on all the baits. The one negative to leaving all the baits on would be the baits possibly getting tangled, I would assume. Only using a few baits with hooks would probably help. Don't know much about the specifics of these rigs so maybe they take care of the tangle deal up front.

This bait makes perfect sense and striper guys have been using them for several years. Just not on a casting rod, which also makes great sense. I'll explore these as a striper bait in late winter/early spring.

Hey Duayne, dont wait until winter to try the A-Rig for the stripes...caught 13 yesterday at Cumberland and 9 came from the A-Rig! I make my own and was really impressed with its durability after catchn 9 stripes...if u can find the fish, it wil def put'em in the boat. Didn't have any biggns, but was a blast...biggest one was around 30". My rig consists of a 7'11" Okuma heavy action rod with an Abu Garcia Revo SX 7.1 ratio with 65lb braid....So dont wait go now!
