What a sweet little girl and so good in an emergency situation. Brought tears to my eyes. Loved her accent, I think its southern which just adds to her being so adorable. I listened to it a few times. Thanks for sharing this.

Now that's quite a young lady there. My wife and daughter loved it.

BTW Gills, she doesn't have a southern accent, it just sounds like it to you because she doesn't say aboot instead of about.

In the American south 'about' has at least 3 syllables, sounds a little like uh-bi-yowt. I should record a few minutes of one of our fishing club meetings, then you'd really hear some southern accents.

My wife is from Ohio and I often have to translate for her. There have been many times in Ky and Alabama when she just smiled and nodded when someone was talking to her, and she'd shoot me the 'help me' look. I usually jump in the conversation, then later tell her what they were saying.

16 years ago when we first came to Kentucky, we were cruising the countryside out near Scottsville when I ran across this old dude herding cows in the edge of his pasture with his old beat up chevy pickup. I pulled up and shot the breeze with him for a minute. He had seriously deep accent and was slurring his words too. He was too deep in the bottle to be afoot, so he was using his truck to get his cows back in the fence. His house was just across the street, so I asked him if he was sure he was ah-ite and moved on.

We pulled away, and the wife was looking at me I was from another planet. Not only was he pushing cows around with his truck, she didn't understand even one single word he'd said. Makes me laugh every time I think about the look on her face that day.

hahaha that made me laugh DH when you said she doesnt have an accent and your wife and I would get along great. I have a hard time up hear when french people talk english with their accent. Its like they are not speaking the same language. lol I will take you up on your offer to record your fishing meetings cuz I would love to hear some good southern talk.I would probably have that same confused look your wife has. hahaha

I've been to Canada several times. We have a plant in Trois-Rivieres (Three Rivers) north of Montreal and a concern in Toronto also. Up there in Three Rivers they stubbornly speak French even if they know English. Made it a little tough to order in the restaurants and particularly difficult to operate their computers. A French keyboard does some weird stuff. I thought I read once that province was trying to more or less secede from Canada and be their own little French speaking nation.

Toronto is a huge city, but clean and the people are great. Only thing is you have to keep merging left or you wind up getting off the freeway without wanting to. They talk funny, but by and large them Canucks is alright be me.

One of these days I'm going to save up and take one of those float plane fishing trips up there. You got any 'connections'?

Devil Horse, you should take your wife for a cruise around Hermitage Springs, TN. Those people have their own dialect. They use words that confuse the heck out of me. For instance, they say kids are fittin' when they are fighting; they call glass jars "cans;" things will b-ah-ite; gravel 'taters when they dig potatoes; 'grub broars' instead of digging up briers; will call a person a 'sumbitch' if they don't like them; and will ask 'whatchamedabout?" They put tars on their coar and build fars in the stove.

Well what can I say the french are a breed all to themselves. They did orginally come France and that says it all. The are very vocal, aggressive and feel they should run the world. The ones who wanted Quebec to separate were called "The Separatists" and they were very much wanting Quebec to separate from Canada and be there own country. Now we all thought they were way too full of themselves which they are. I ignored them. They couldnt survive on their own and finally settled down. Yes you will find some french who are very stubborn with their language. They dont like the english. If you would like I could teach you some french swear words to use on them. hahaha Thanks for your kind words about us english Canadians. I think we are pretty nice and clean too. What do you mean that we talk funny?? Yes save your money and come on up here for fishing with our clean water and you dont have to throw any fish back as there are so many. Sorry no connections. I am in the big city now.
