    Thanksgiving recipes? Give em up!

Anyone feel free to take over this thread because Im not around much these days. Lard can country ham is our main thing along with the traditional turkey. To do the ham you will need a lard can or something big enough to boil the ham in with a tight lid. Next soak the ham overnight covered in water with 4 cups distilled white vinegar. Pour off the mixture and rince the ham in hot water and add back to the can, cover with water and add 1 two litre coke ( not diet ) and bring to a boil for 1 hour. Remove from stove and sit on several papers or magazines, wrap in a few blankets and tie tight. Let it sit for 24 hrs then remove and carve ( alot of fat to cut off first ). My hams are a hit everywhere I have taken them! My mom cooks the turkey so I dont have a recipe for that but my wife has a brocolli caserole recipe to die for ( heart attack in the making ). If anyone needs it just let me know.

I have fried turkeys for years but not this year!! Taking a break and eating baked turkey this year. I usually fried 3 turkeys since once you got the oil hot you might as well use it!
It's good but dang it gets expensive!

Never had the fried turkey yet...But man your probably talking what at least 4 to 5 gallons of oil to coook those birds in at least, huh?

Hey Parker...my job is generally to ring everyone the dishes to eat off of and maybe the drinks and pies.....

But main goal is to eat until I can't eat no more......

No doubt fellas its an awesome way to eat a turkey. I know that we buy the 5 gallon tub of oil when we do it. I was told many years ago to do 3-4 turkeys per batch of oil so that's why we just cook and then dispose of it down the sink. Lol just kidding we do t pour it down the sink. We have a friendly business associated that lets us pour the oil in his oil tank.

I have tasted a few good baked birds that were juicy and just awesome but to me nothing compares to o e that has been injected with liquid spices rubbed with some Cajun blend and deep fried! The second and third turkeys cooked the best and it's because the oil temp is stable and by then you got your groove on with frying. Man they come out so pretty and brown !!

OMG, I have already broken my promise not to cry. I will be alone this Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone enjoys their "Turkey Day" and remembers to give lots of hugs and "I love you" to all the special people in your life.

Sorry to hear your gonna be alone...been there before while serving in the Military...Christmas Too!

Anyway wish you the best Bug! A few Thanksgivings ago (several years in a row) we would go to a local Church and serve unwed mothers or folks from a nursing home. It felt great.

(Meaning I decided to get me and my daughter out of the normal and serve someone else for a change. Might be a good way to get out and not be alone??)
