Re: Black student defends his Confederate flag

Amazing huh? This man takes a stand on something that he feels strongly about and it's considered racist.....with no hesitation...it's racist so take it down! Now when they find out it's not a white, asian, mexican or whatever and he is black he is told it's ok?? Ohh, so it's not offensive to a black person now since a black man displayed it? Really?

The idea that racism is only committed when a non black person does something as simple as hang a flag has been reinforced...again!

Isn't it ironic that this happened in South Carolina. I bet the NAACP is freaking out now.

Re: Black student defends his Confederate flag

Interesting story. I like his ideas on the subject and he makes some excellent points.

Thomas: I just feel like, I should have my right to see a flag the way I see it. Just because someone feels offense to it, why should I have to take it down? They can walk another way. It's not like I have a cross burning or a noose hanging outside my room. I don't see it as a racist statement to me and that's my opinion of it. I don't think I should have to take it down just because someone might take offense. They shouldn't have that control of me. They are not my mom and dad.

My generation should have our opportunities to show our viewpoint. We shouldn't have to change it just because the majority disagrees. I'm not trying to make someone cry or hurt them. Why can't we be ourselves and think for ourselves for once? I'm trying to show that I'm not thinking for the majority which is that [the Confederate flag is] racist.

Thomas: Change has to happen somehow so I said, 'Why can't I be the person who makes the change? Why not start now instead of later?'

Re: Black student defends his Confederate flag

This college student is wise beyond his years. He can see through a lot of the BS thrown by others to confuse the issues. I worked with a black woman for several years here in KY. The job we did required substantial travel much of which was in the south. After she was hired for the job, knowing it required the travel, she tried to get management to let her avoid travel in the south because of the history between blacks and the south. To my thinking, she was racist because of the way she thought and behaved. JMO
