Ok, I'll admit that I'm boatless, and I live up in Georgetown. So, I was thinking about getting out on the Elkhorn (Great Crossing Park). Does anyone have any lure ideas?
Thanks
Jay

My son caught a nice 14" largemouth on Elkhorn yesterday using a 1/8 oz Alpine White Booyah Micro Pond spinnerbait!

i dont know if u have tried it but one bait that is easy to use and easily fished weedless is a fluke. I use an albino fluke and just twitch it around limbs, rocks or bridge piers. I have caught hundreds of smallmouth on them in elkhorn and is about the only bait i throw for them except buzzbaits in summer after dark. The fluke is a pretty easy bait to use, i dont use a weighted hook, i just want them to sink really slow and the clearer the water the better. I like to keep it in sight just because they will come up and eat them most of the time since the creek is not that deep in most places and there is nothing better then seeing a 3 lb bronzeback roll up on it. it will make your heart skip a beat. black buzzbaits in the summer r also great at dark and after dark. oh yeah go to walmart and buy the chartreuse dye for soft plastics and dye the last inch or so of the fluke, always gets me more bites.
Rebel wee craw and strike king Bitsy tubes (green pumpkin for clear or stained water, black and blue for muddy water) are two of my most successful lures in any creek I've fished. Rebel Crickhopper is also another favorite.
Oldie but goodie is rooster tail inline spinner or beetle spins. 3" grubs another.
The farther u get away from the access point, the better.
Booya spinner bait,Legallimit jig, strike kung buzz bait etc. what ever works![]()
I have caught tons of smallmouth on the 4 and 5" senko in lots of different streams when the water is clear to light stained. Also been catching some nice ones on the flappin hog by Gary Yamamoto this year. If the water has some color its hard to beat the Big O, or a white spinnerbait. Don't forget Big Hammer swimbaits.
Since I'm boatless as well I have fished that spot many many times and have had very little success. I've tried spinners, texas rigged senkos of various sizes, crankbaits, you name it. I just never have any luck at that spot on Elkhorn and I've fished above the dam, right beneath it and farther down past the bridge. But then again, I'm like the worst fisherman ever. Maybe you'll have better success though!
Well, if you go down the trail to a wooden bench, 1/2 mile down, there is some tree cover and excellent carp fishing. I've never gone bass fishing there, but I've caught some decent pan-fish.Since I'm boatless as well I have fished that spot many many times and have had very little success. Smallies love jerbaits, and really go nuts on this one as it shimmies on the fall.
