What is the best way to break in a Mercury 150 L Optimax Pro Xs?
I would ask the dealer you bought it from.
I recently just bought a new boat with a Mercury motor. If you look in the Mercury owners manual in the "Operation" section there is a "Break in Procedure" instructions. My motor is much smaller than yours, but I assume the owners manuals of yours would also cover this.
Hopefully the dealer you bought it from covered this information with you.
If not, as has been stated before, the Owner's Manual (the booklet thingie you get with the motor when you purchase it) is a good place to start. It has everything you will need to know in terms of information on recommended fuel, lubricants, as well as some maintenance scheduling.
Be sure to follow the procedure to the letter. The OptiMax are supposed to have a computer that tracks all the run info for warranty purposes. The factory or dealer can access that data and possibly deny any future warranty claims if you did not follow the proper procedure. If the dealer and the manual don't say the same thing, I would contact Mercury to verify what they want.
By the way, congrats on the new motor!
