I am looking for new line for crankbait fishing. Thinking about using stren magathin or sufix deep crank. Anyone have any thoughts
thanks in advance.
ok, i saw where 40 some had looked and no replies yet, so here goes, i've used stren, and tried silver thread, now i'm using either b.p.s. Excel mono, clear blue, or clear, and p-line for deep
divers. I spray reel magic on them and i have had no problems. Tr
Well everyone will give different answers. So for me here is what i use and i have tried about all Big names except sunline.
So far here is the most Recent lines i have used
Bps Mono (Pretty good line for the price,Has good Stretch )
Suffix Deep Cranking (good line ,cast like a dream plenty strong. Also has good amount of Stretch)
Pline Cx Premium(One of my favorites,Very strong cast well.Medium stretch)
Pline Flouroclear (Just started using this line,So far i enjoy it,Good cast ability ,seems Strong )
Seaguar fluorocarbon Red label (Only one trip with it so far.Seems to cast good,Sensitive No stretch)
All are great lines and to me they perform the best from everything i have tried very strong cast super well .Although they do have some stretch which is something you may want to consider if throwing Deep divers 15+ft.If you are using a stiff rod and not a crank bait specific rod then a little stretch in the line would be good in my opinion .But if you are using a Crank bait Rod which has More bend in them then I would Recommend Fluorocarbon.
I think everyone put a little too much emphasis on line. I use Seguar InvisX for jig and worm applications and only change it out two or three times a year (and i fish a lot) or when my spool gets low from re-tie. I pretty much use BPS Excel for everything else and never had a problem with breaks or line memory (use line conditioner). On occasion when I'm throwing a big plug I will use 12lb fluro. Find what works for you and stick with it. As far a cranking goes I think you will be fine with a fluro or mono whatever you feel comfortable with.
I use YOZURI Hybrid floro and have not had any issues with this line.
Been using it for 5 years or so. Line conditioner is a must with any floro lines.
Bassky
Bps excel has worked very well for me.
I use flourocarbon with a crank bait rod. It casts well, sinks better than mono or braid and doesn't have much stretch which I like.
If you're trying to get your crankbait down deep fluoro would trump mono because it sinks....Mono has more stretch, and as stated above, will allow you to use a less technique specific rod....Remember that line size and diamater has a lot to do with how deep your crankbait will run....If you're fishing really open water without many snags or brush for a fish to tangle you up in, you can get by with 8 or 10lb....If youre going to be bumping logs or rocks, you might go with 12 or 15lb to get the fish out of it and also for a little more abrasion resistance...Personally I use 12lb Seaguar Invizx but have also used 12lb BPS mono and had no trouble with it
thanks for your input all have been using bps excel for about 10yrs now and didnt notice any problem until friends started switching line then i noticed they started to out cast me by 25 - 30 ft or so also bait seems to stay deeper longer.never thought about using a line condishiner though
This line is on sales right now at www.landbigfish.com. A 300 yard spool sells for around $10. LBF.com has it for just over $7 per spool right now! Just wanted to let you know in case you're still in the market to buy.
