I remember a thread that was posted earlier in the week about home invasions, robberies, thefts, etc., and want to tell you about an encounter of a different type I had last night. Just before dark I went out to move my car into the garage and remembered that I hadn't picked up the mail for 2 days. Since I live in an area that has a significant number of eastern diamondback rattlesnakes, I decided that instead of walking about 700 ft. across the lawn, I would drive around to the mailbox which is placed on a road that runs beside my property. There are only 4 houses on the one-lane road. Although it was twilight, I had my headlights on so I could see clearly where I was walking. I pulled to the side of the road at the mailbox and left the car door open with the engine running for less than two minutes.

Just as I turned around from the mailbox, a white Honda SUV with tinted windows pulled up to my rear bumper and just sat there. I don't know anyone that has a vehicle like that and my heart started beating faster. (My husband works out of state and I live alone). I asked, "Can I help you?" No answer. "Do I know you?" Still no answer. "What do you want?" Still no answer; they just sat there. As I reached in to lay the mail on the seat I said, "Will you please move away from my car so I can back up?" They didn't move. When I raised up from putting the mail on the seat, I came out with my handgun and aimed straight for the driver's windshield. I learned that a white Honda SUV will go from 0-60 mph, IN REVERSE, in exactly 5 seconds.

Today I am asking a lot of "why" and "what ifs" but I can say for sure that I am glad I have a Handgun Carry Permit and a handgun that is my co-pilot.
