Talking Speaking out against 'the Penn State way'

Vicky Triponey knows all too well the power Penn State's late football coach, Joe Paterno, held for more than half a century over the insular slice of central Pennsylvania that calls itself Happy Valley. She experienced firsthand the clubby, jock-snapping culture, the sense of entitlement, the cloistered existence. It's what drove her five years ago from her job as the vice president who oversaw student discipline. She was told she was too aggressive, too confrontational, that she wasn't fitting in with "the Penn State way."She clashed often with Paterno over who should discipline football players when they got into trouble. The conflict with such an iconic figure made her very unpopular around campus. For a while, it cost Triponey her peace of mind and her good name. It almost ended her 30-year academic career.

    Finally, you post something relevant!

I read this article, too, and you have to give this lady a lot of respect for the way she stood by her principles and didn't give in to the "Penn State way," even when it meant not only her job, but her reputation, and thereby her career. I'm glad to see how she's been vindicated now that the Sandusky horrorshow has been exposed. It's too bad she never met Sandusky, and knew nothing of what was going on, or it WOULD have been reported sooner.

Wow another blow to a college that's already on its heels. I think we all know how important successful sports programs are for colleges but without true leadership and the ability to make the tough decisions this is the crap that happens. I'm sure alot of colleges have dirty laundry but man Penn State sounded like a good ole boy place that didn't take to outsiders to well. Well to anyone who didn't understand the "Penn state way" that place is prolly gonna have more dirty laundry come out.
