All the talk about Bigfoot and Mermaids reminds me of the Giant of Valley Station.

When I was a kid growing up in Valley Station much of the area was just being developed. There was an old abandon farm house out in the undeveloped area and as kids we would hike every where in the area.

This farm house had a door where the door handle was, from what I remember, at least 6 feet off the ground. You could not reach the door handle to turn the knob.

Now being all of 8 years old the only creature that could possibly go in and out of that door would be a Giant. Soon the house became a big attraction in the neigborhood and kids by the dozen would go to see the house the giant lived in.

Now looking back I realized that that door was simply used to attempt to board the house up. It was a left hand door hung on the right jamb upside down as a makeshift quick fix. Being hung upside down placed the door handle very high on the door.

I never saw the Giant but other kids in the neighborhood saw him.
