Has anyone used the porcupine fish attractors? or know if they work? Wild Duck
No ... I haven't used them.
Yes ... they do work .. in some places/times. As I understand it, KDFWR has used them.
But ... you can build your own for much less, and they'd last much longer. All you need is a coffee can, quickcrete, and whatever length of 1" PVC pipe (or 2x2's) that you need for the size of attractor you intend to build.
Busted lengths of PVC can be had cheap to free. Cheap at stores that sell them, free from the dumpsters at building sites.
Coffee cans can be collected from friends that purchase their coffee in cans, if you don't. I don't recommend dumpster diving for them, though !!
Quickcrete in busted bags can be purchased at reduced prices ... but, normal prices are still reasonable.
If using PVC ... use sandpaper on them, as that seems to promote quicker algae growth. (or so I've heard)
Also, be sure & find out if it's legal to place attractors in the waters, areas, & depths you intend to drop them.
