All-bami-bass rigs vs Striper umbrella rigs.

So I gos to Bass Pro in Clarksville today. Me looks at the Yum/Bill Dance bami rigs. Me thinks they look look to schoolie Stripers. Then me wonders farther back in the fishing section and see the Striper umbrella rigs. The striper named rigs look so solid.

So here's me question. I want to try umbrella rigs, Ali-bami's or others.

I figure at the Falls of the Ohio behind the hydros, the Yum cute little deals would work f0or hybrids and such, and also ay Barren.
For Striper fishing, I was wondering, if I want to pull them behind boards, would them cute little "bami" Yum, Bill Dance like type rigs with the little rubber fishies stand up to a 24-30 inch Striper attack?

I'd say one good striper attack would mutilate the bass version of the A Rig...I'd say it'd bend the wires in such a fashion that you'd never get em straightened back out, and I can tell you from experience that if a big fish grabs one, and the swivels aren't up to par, they're the weak link....They straighten out and you lose the bait...If I were targeting something larger than bass, I'd go with the heavier duty rigs

    Cool

Ditto what Fishin said. I doubt if an A-rig would hold up to much abuse by the stripes/hybrids. Besides, you can by 5 or 6 small umbrellas for the price of one A-rig. Leaves more funding for the purchase of adult beverages.

    same ole same ole

I'm sorry I keep bringing up the"old " days, but we had the originals almost 25 years ago. They were called "schoolies" a bunch of spiral spinners we used primarily lake trout. There was no way to cast them, a trolling tool.

    Welp....that settles it.

    A. Fund the beverages
    B. Use left over funds to buy Striepr rigs.

Joe, you got a brand or a source for the "small umbrells'a". I was wondering where to get small one's fully rigged, Lake Cumberland Country Store?

I've caught more stripers on the alabama rig than any other type of fish. I throw an Okuma Big Swimbait rod, with an old pflueger trion reel, backed with 80# sufix 832. The heavy braid isn't for the fish, but more so a backlash that loses $20 in lures at once. The rod makes the setup. I threw a heavy flippin stick at first, and decided to step up to a more suitable rod. An alabama rig with the big hammer 3in swim baits is deadly on CLand stripers. Between myself and another person we hung into approx 70#'s worth of them in an hour while they were in the jumps in the spring. Most of them were under 24" (limit at the time), but fun none the less. As far as pulling behind boards I couldn't tell you, but I always have one tied on for a blow up on CLand. I figure if one was going to tear up the rig, it would have done it 20 stripes ago, but I'm still fishing with all but one of the original ones i got in Feb. The one I lost was why I switched to 80# braid. As far as storing them the best thing I've found are these http://www.actionvillage.com/nxe-pai...FaZcMgodlFUAGw

I agree with stuck1 on having a rod thats suited for the bait....I fished one for 6 days straight on a 7'4H Cumara and it was too much bait for the rod....I now have an Okuma swimbait rod that's a lot like a telephone pole and I can throw it with little effort

I picked up some of these:

and have pulled them behind boards. Haven't caught any fish yet but will give it another later this Fall.. They are very easy to work with and don't cost much so if they bend them up, they bend them up. If I start to worry about it, I'll add teasers to the sides with one stinger in the middle.

Sorry I'm slow to reply...havent' been online for a few days. No particular brand or source. Usually order online, such as links below. Bass Pro also sells a few, but iffy to have any on-hand. Lake Cumberland Country Store may have them as well. I use any size from 7" up to 20+", but I would stick to the 7" if you want to cast/retrieve. I use all sizes while flat-lining and with downriggers. Never tried them on planer boards, but have heard of others doing so.
