What's the Ohio River fishing like?

Might be going Saturday, afternoon till evening, ramping at Salt River and working north. Could use some advise on best place to pitch the net at to get some shad, and what the bite is doing. Ya think shad will be visibile and easy to net in Salt? Probably do some bottom fishing, some drifting, and make a run in behind the dam. At the dam, best to anchor up behind the hydro's or close to the upper gates. Been awhile since I did the river. Any help appreciated.

u can almost walk across the river on the backs of all the shad there are so many. The last time i put in at salt river it was full bustn at the seems with shad so i don't think finding bait is gona be a prodlem. As for fishing north of salt river i haven't done as good up there as I have heading towards otter creek. Maybe its just me but the fishing just seems better down there.

Thanks Ronzo. Appreciate that. Were the shad like from the ramp toward the mouth of the creek, and real visible, or did ya need to go back up in the creek for shad? We're hitting the water around 3 pm, and I'm used to pitching the net where I see them tail flippin at the surface or where I can see a big visible cloud below the surface. Again, any help appreciated, Ain't don't the river at all this year and rusty as the dickens:-)

The shad are so thick right now it is crazy. Its been a couple weeks that I fished salt but ever other creek I've been up in the last week or so there have been swarms of them from the mouth up. You can't go very far up salt so you won't run out of them heading up the creek and like I said the river is loaded with them to. Finding bait will be the easiest thing you'll do all day. Catching fish has proved to be the hardest part, it's been a little slow.

The river has been real slow lately. But the shad are plentiful everywhere you go.

Shad are thick. Easy to get. But even though the sonar lit up like 4th of July or a 70% off sale at Penny's, the fishing was slow. 8 hour trip 2, and 2 throwback cats.

Theory: right now there is so much free lunch on the Ohio that a catfish would be stupid for biting a shad that had a nose ring in it.

Thanks man, you were right. Caught plenty, mostly 4-5 inch. Easy amd all over the river. All kidding aside, thanks man, your advise helped me a lot, and I hopE a 50 pound catfish refuses to eat anything except for what you decide to feed it. YOU DA MAN!
