    New truck

Well I've put it off way too long and have to buy a new truck to pull the sled with. It may not be brand new but I have to do something. It is mind blowing what they want for these new vehicles and even the one to three year old ones are just crazy.

I gotta do something though, because pulling a rig 3 hours one way from home and having no confidence in your tow vehicle is too much for my simple mind to bear. Hopefully I have something by mid March.....This is gonna hurt....

Just a suggestion Mark..... Look at CarMax. Their online selection was huge and they have stores in Louisville as well. I shopped for a company ride and the best used car price we found was at the store in Lexington. I never looked at their trucks though.

I was also going to say CarMax...the people are just kind of like robots in there and creep me out. LOL

I bought my truck after searching online at AutoTrader.com for exactly the model I wanted, but a couple of years old. I found it at a dealer in Indianapolis, did everything over the phone...all I had to do was drive up there, test drive/inspect, sign, and drive her home.

I will never, ever, ever, never, ever, ever buy a brand new vehicle again. That is an absolute joke. I've done it enough in my young lifetime already and have learned from my mistakes. The need for me to see an odometer reading of 12 miles and know that I'm the first person to ever fart in it has passed. Even the prices a couple of years old are ridiculous, but at least that initial hit of depreciation has been shouldered somewhat by someone else...and you get a new model...most times factory warranty remaining. My truck had 14K miles on it and had been barely driven by a dentist for 2 years. I saved a crap ton over what sticker was on it new, and at 14K miles let's face it...it's a NEW truck. The thing isn't even broken in good yet.

    Good luck Mark.

Might I suggest something in a nice Kentucky blue? Paul Miller Ford has Coach Cal edition Mustangs and F150's up there...you'd look good in one of those trucks, with your bride in a matching Mustang. SON!

Good point Brian....the folks at CarMax were nice but man I know what you mean. Very respectful and no buy now to save X amount of dollars crap. Just look at the sticker price and that's what it cost.

Mark, I shopped at least a month maybe a little more and I was done!!! The misinformation by sales guys, the stupid tricks, outdated websites and fake sense of understanding of what I wanted made me be kinda rude toward the end. When going to a few of the final dealerships I would be greeted by a man with a big smile and as I was shaking his hand I would tell him....look your the 5th dealer I have seen in weeks, spent countless hours of research online, I'm paying cash and I know exactly what I want and I would tell them what I saw online at their website, (even did this via phone to save time.) Is the car vehicle here or not? Even had one guy tell me to come out and see the car that fits my description only to find it was the wrong color and make!!
I'm sorry but car sales is a crazy/dirty profession and if someone would actually listen to the customer they would be much more successful. I didn't go back to two dealers (website or location) due to their ignorance. I can't imagine what these guys pull on uninformed buyers!

I got very lucky on my last truck purchase.......

A few years ago, this truck was parked up in a yard by my house. It was parked there for 6 months with a for sale sign. Then they added a number.

The price started at 30k.....A few months later 25k.........a few months later 20k. a few months later, the truck was gone.

I thought they sold it, but they actually moved it to the sisters house at the other entrance to our neighborhood. I ran down to kroger to buy some stuff for my wife, and saw the truck with a sign for 17k. I went up and knocked on the door, and started talking to the lady.

The truck was a 2006 f-150 loaded. Only a couple years old at the time, and only had 15000 miles on it. The previous owner was her brother, and he died unexpectedly, and they simply wanted to get rid of the truck......

I offered her 15500 for it..........and the took it.

So I purchased a 36000 truck, 2 years old with 15000 miles for 15500. WOW.

A year later, I took it in for some routine maintenance and Carriage ford asked me if I wanted to transfer the warranty.....sure. They told me the previous owner had purchased a Bumper to bumper 100k premium warranty.....

I gave them the 50 bucks and transferred it.

This has been by far one of the best vehicles I've ever purchased.......I'm just at 100k now, running out of warranty, and I plan on keeping this until the wheels fall off.

    Later,

    Geo

What IS the deal on boat and vehicle prices?

No way in heck new trucks should cost what they do it's gotten stupid.

Nobody likes bass boats better than me, but there just ain't no way a well equipped 21 foot rig should cost 50 to 70+ grand. Insane.

Used prices are ridiculous too, they seem higher now than new vehicle prices were BOWA (Before Obama Was Elected).

Is it the fact that so many people think nothing of going into huge debt, or does most everydamnbody just have more money than me?

I'd have to jump off a fiscal cliff and manage money like the federal government to even consider a new truck or boat.

Sorry, I got my acronym wrong, it should have been BOWE. Prolly got it confused with BOHICA...no need to explain what that one means.

BTW, if the wheels fall off my '99 Tahoe, I'll put em back on and run it some more.

No way no how would I purchase a new boat for 20k so the 50k boats are not even on my radar. If I lived in Florida I would consider a 20k boat since I could and would use it more often....on the ocean!!

I have also been on the look out for a new truck.

The best deal I have seen on a new truck is a basic interior, 2 door, short bed, 2wd, 1500 Dodge, v8. $19k

Upgrade to 4 doors and 4x4 will move the price up to about $25k to $26k.
