    Thumbs up Thank you Shimano

    I have several Cumara rods and have used the over the counter warranty exchange at Bass Pro a couple of times, but have never dealt with Shimano directly.

    About 2 years ago I broke a large portion of the rod tip off and tried to exchange at bass pro a couple of times with no luck. The rod was a gift purchased with cash and the receipt was no where to be found. Bass Pro has a no receipt no exchange policy. So the broken rod ended up in the corner of my storage building.

    I found the rod again before Christmas and read a post about sending it straight to Shimano, so I thought I would try the same thing. I found the warranty form online which also required a receipt, but thought it would be worth the risk. I already had a broken rod that couldn't be fixed, so I would pay shipping and see what happened. I cut the rod in half, put it in the box, paid for $10 for shipping one way...

    Got an email today saying my new rod was shipped out today. In my opinion that's good customer service!

    I've used that method everytime ive had to warranty one and they haven't let me down yet. Shimanos warranty is the absolute best hands down. On the bright side you'll be getting one of the new red cumaras most likely. Im anxious to hear the reviews on them as most people say they balance better

    I wouldn't be sad if they sent a red one. This one was a spinning rod I used for shakey head. I'm dying for a new one to throw a jig on.

    They'll send you the exact same model you broke or whatever is closest in the new line. I never found a cumara i really liked throwing a jig on. The 7'4 H was the closest in the old line, but hopefully they put out a good one this time. Im sure ill get a red one or two this year as thats about how many rod failures ive had per year with the cumaras

    OH my Gosh... A couple rod failures a year?
    I am a Gloomis guy. I sold my first Gloomis IM6 rod 2 years ago in a yard sale I got it in the late 80's. This rod was in tact although I did have to replace the tip eye.
    I currently use about 7 rods regularly.(G-Loomis and a couple TFO Gary Loomis signature series)
    All are in tact and never broken. (I am going to find some wood to knock on).

    I am always amazed to hear of so many rod failures. I have broken a couple rods in truck doors or tailgates or damaged them by my own fault. Out of all my years fishing, I have only ever had two ultralights break while fishing. One when the line wrapped around the tip and one where I likely bruised the blank when I fell while wading a creek.

    Sounds like a lot of guys on here are rough on their equipment...

    I broke mine with with the rod locker lid. I've broken 2 or 3, all my fault. That's the great thing about shimanos warranty

    Most of my rod failures come when setting the hook....Broke a GLX last year swinging a 12" fish in the boat, broke one trying to break my line when i was hung (that one was my fault), but the rest have been setting the hook with a tx rig or jig, and not always on big fish....They're trying to make the rods as light as possible these days and are apparently comprimising the durability of the rods....That's why I use Shimano and their top of the line warranty

    I know several guys who have snapped a Veritas or 12 on the cast

    I have had a few rods break over the last 15 years that were my fault. Like pushing the tip toward a hung up bait and snapping an inch or two off. Sometimes it made a 7ft rod a 6ft 8" rod .
    Others were snapped on hooksets but I knew when the rod had been weakened in the past by a jig or weight slapping it on a hookset. For the most part I don't break many rods considering how many I have and use.

    I fish 3-5 times a week and use my equipment. Im not overly hard on my gear but it does get used and the rods that break are typically out every time. If i fished once every couple weeks im sure my gear would make it10 years. When i spend a lot of money to purchase a rod, i expect to get my moneys worth out of it, and thats why i fish mostly shimano

    Shimano's lifetime warranty rods are the best---both in quality and in warranty service. Most people will take them over the counter warranty with no issues. Not sure why Bass Pro is such a stickler about that. I know A2O in Jeffersonville will take care of any Shimano lifetime warranty rod over the counter no questions asked and no charges. They're great!
