Newtown BOE approves armed guards at schools

Hmmmm seems the NRA idea wasn't all that bad. If I was a parent I would feel much better about my kids going there. This is a step in the right direction in my mind. Other measures of security can be taken but this is a start.

I'm for TRAINED security in schools.BUT where is the money going to come from? And what level of personell are you willing to pay for? And what duties will they be asked to perform.

Those are budget issues not obstacles. I don't have the answers and the only way anything will be done is by committing to it. I guess as schools arm themselves a blueprint will start to form on what works. We all know that there is tons of waste in budgets so that's a good place to start. Some cities may have the ability to offer part time work to off duty or retired police officers, ex Military Police?
As far as training security personnel....that would be an option for sure. My point was that as cooler heads prevail things are starting to shape up, maybe weed out the emotions a bit. No one can protect us from crazy folks all the time and the world is changing. I think it's a shock to think armed police officers need to be at schools or roaming certain schools but something other than controlling guns (dumbest idea ever in my book) has to be done.
I have heard people gripe about how are we going to protect malls and office buildings as on and on...We are not is my answer. You cannot fix stupid or crazy. Legally armed citizens is fine and has worked time and time again. It's not the kind of news the media wants to push so it gets buried or not reported. When you look at the stats on deaths by guns and other means you see how blown out of proportion this control thing is. It's politics as usual and our great weiner in chief loves this stuff.

Freedom and security are not or have never been free.We either pay for them with cash, or blood. We cant cure many illnesses, we dont understand most mental issues,and even if we could guarantee public safety, we have folks who would opt out of it. This will go away, and happen again.

Since when does it matter about new taxes? If they want it they take it. Isn't that how it goes? Locally here in lex I didn't want additional property taxes for the local public transportation but they did it anyway. I mean how many homeowners take public transportation? Why attack us? I would have been for a tax that everyone pays not just homeowners. So back to the point since when does it matter? My gas bill has school tax, my electric bill has school tax maybe they need a school security tax sales tax? That way everybody pays.
