    IU, UK, UL fans.......

So, I was looking back at times when my team,, Indiana should have hung a banner but didn't. I can count 3.

1975 ......didn't due to scott may getting injured. SHOULD HAVE. Up to that point they were undefeated, and would return players that ended up being undefeated the next year. LOCK.

1992-93.......Alan Henderson injury. This team, went undefeated in the big 10 beating the fab 5 twice. Not a complete lock but pretty good chance of a banner.

2002.....Knights team coached by Davis. Went to the final game to be beaten by a sub par Maryland team. Indiana went on to beat that team the next year, which had the same players, and BEAT them bad.

So, those are my 3........there might be more, but those definitely stick out in my mind.

try to keep this on the up and up.........SERIOUS posts only, and no pissing matches about my boys are bigger than your boys, or I will ask the moderators to remove it.

    Later,

    Geo

1997 - if Pitino played Derek Anderson then Miles Simon and Mike Bibby don't have field days. If Nazr Mohammad had made any of his six free throws then Kentucky beats Arizona for the title.

2011 - Kentucky goes 4-12 from the free throw line and loses by a point to Uconn in the semis. Kentucky beats Butler for the title if we get past Uconn

1975 - John Wooden announced it would be his last game. Played 3-4 guys the whole game and beat a powerful more talented much taller Kentucky team for the title.

Last, I forget the year that UK had Bowie and Turpin and they played Patrick Ewing and Georgetown. Ewing got in foul trouble and Hall rested the big fellas so they would be ready the second half. Kentucky came out cold the second half and I think it was a freshman James Blackmon that made the first basket many minutes into the second half. The Cats weren't necessarily a lock but should have had a shot at it.

You are both wrong on 1975, Louisville was the preseason favorite and picked to win it all in 1975. Best team Denny Crum ever had in 30 years at the Cards. Wooden actually announced his retirement before playing Louisville in the Final Four. Louisville had the game won until Terry Howard of Louisville (who had not missed a free throw all season...yep 100% from the line) missed the front end of a 1 & 1 which allowed UCLA to tie the game.. The Cards ended up losing by 1 in overtime.

Yep Crum was talking about this on Thursday or Friday of his show. Said that his 83 team was the best he ever had.

Seems like 1975 was a year with LOTS of solid teams........

I brought this up because some of my crazy IU friends were talking about how IU would have as many titles as UK had they won some of the titles they should have. I reminded them that I suspected UK should have won some too that were missed, but I certainly am not a UK expert

I have a friend who is a big Kansas fan, and I've yet to get his thoughts on the matter.....Yea woody, that is Kansas Dave

I have to disagree with the 2002 Indiana team. I thought they had a pretty flukey run to get to that final game - they beat Duke at Rupp and then got hot from three to beat Kent State in the elite 8 and then Oklahoma in the Final 4 game. A pretty easy draw really. But then Maryland had a fairly easy draw that year too - I thought Maryland was the better team with Steve Blake and some decent bigs.

Sorry Geo but losing Juan Dixon, Lonny Baxter and Chris Wilcox from the 2002 team does not make the 2003 team the same Maryland team. Senior point guard and 2 monsters inside is a pretty big loss. The three scored 43 of the teams 64 points and had 26 rebounds. All 3 went pro after the title game.

Wasn't Steve Francis on that Maryland team that won the title? I thought he was the national player of the year on that title team. Maybe I have my years mixed up.

Not sure when Francis graduated but I remember Juan Dixon was the stud point guard on Maryland. Chris Wilcox turned a 6 game NCAA Tourney run into a first round draft choice. Wilcox was cut like granite.

For UK it was 1997, 2003, 2010, 2011. I'm convinced UK had the best team each of those years except 2011 and didn't win it. The 2011 team was not the best, but once they got to the Final Four, they were the favorite and couldn't close it out.
