Find the shad and use the Alabama rig. You will catchfish.

Hey Guys,
Im heading out to Kentucky Lake this weekend and am looking for a little advise. I will be staying on the North end of the lake. Typically when I go this time of year I find the fish on secondary points back in the creeks (3 years ago this pattern was on fire this time of year). However, with the crazy cold spring that we have had, I am now scrambling on what part of the creeks I should focus on. Reading Dave's reports (very much appreciated) he stated that he is catching them off of main lake points. My question is, with this warm weather this week, do you think that it will transition the bass back into the creeks. Or with the rising water, will the bass be real shallow?
So many questions to think about before the weekend comes. On a good note it looks like the weather will be nice! I will be sure to post how it turns out!
Thanks

I too am headed down this weekend.........Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon.........I have not been all year, so I'm going to be shooting in the dark a little too.
From the weather reports I've been seeing, it is going to start warming up in a couple days, and that should start helping fish transition. I'm hoping to find fish on those secondary points, close to where they are going to do their business, but who knows.......things are a little slower than normal.
Hopefully they are chasing though, because that sometimes makes it easier to put together a pattern.
I have 5-6 solid traditional spots that I will hit Thurs and Fri........hopefully they work for me. If not, then I will throw out the gamebook and start tearing apart maps and trying to eliminate based on thurs and fri results.
One piece of advice I will DEFINITELY give, since it has been crazy helpful for me in the past.
Take Dave Stewart's water elimination and shad migration class.....In a day, he gives you information that can be used to eliminate the places to not fish. Once you figure that part out, fishing is easy![]()
, it's the catchin that stays hard

I'm really hoping that rattle trap bite is beginning to pick up though.......that is FUN.

The patterns in my last week's report have not changed. Last weekend we had a warm front move south through the area on Friday which warmed the water some and then the warm front made a reversal and moved back through the lakes area on Saturday.....this combination of warming water, cloud cover and dropping barometer from the warm front coming through on Saturday turned the fish on big time. The biggest tournament of the year (Jet-A-Marina Tournament) just happened to be held last Saturday during this culmination of great fishing conditions coming together and the result were phenominal. It has been many, many years since we have seen this many big bags of fish come into a one day tournament. The bite has slowed some since a cold front came through the area a couple of days ago but we are still catching fish....too bad we can't manufacture another warm front....lol. But with the warming period coming, I certainly expect the bite to pick up and also more fish moving into the creeks. Here is a link to that gives the results of some of the top bags of fish and also comments from some of those folks and others that fished the tournament.....you will see that the patterns mentioned pretty much mirror the patterns mentioned in my last week's report...:
Jet-a-Marina Tournament Results
Like I have always said: Some days the bite is slow, most days are average but some days can be great. One thing for sure, the results in this tournament shows just how many big fish are in these lakes and one always has a chance to catch a big one anytime time you make a cast here.

Here is a link to the final results of the Jet-A-Marine tournament.....phenominal is the only word I can think of when looking at what happened in this tournament last weekend....33 bags of fish weighing over 20lbs....definitely one of those days when folks say "you should have been there"...lol

Thanks Geo and Dave. Your help is very much appreciated. However, Not sure if my wife appreciates it as much, as I have made a couple of trips to the local tackle storesCant wait for Friday to come!
That definitely needs to be Dave and Geo![]()
........that boy sure can fish.
Seriously, if you ever want to really figure out KY....and Barkley and any other man made lake with shad..Take Dave's class.
My fishing success over the years since taking his workshop and spending some time on the water with him has definitely gotten better. CRAZY better. You will still have bad days, but the bad days are few and far between.
I'm still trying to do a ledge trip..and I will definitely get one this year (I hope) ).
Definitely give me a call when you're down there. I'm going to be fishing N Barkley some , and N Kentucky some, so we can definitely swap stories over a brew or something
Later,
Geo
