    Jamestown: Turnover, shad, or spill?

Take a look at this pic, down in the lower left corner. I watched the webcam for awhile and it changed shapes and gradually moved from the far left bottom corner, got larger, and spread.

What do ya think? Turnover, shad mob, or spill?

    Bob,

I've been told that this is some kind of algae bloom. May be caused by the higher water which has put alot of vegatation in the water. You can find this in alot of areas on the lake. It was there last year when the water came up then cleared out. I will tell you this I have caught fish in this stuff.......caught some this past Saturday.

As Tim said Algae bloom happens every year. I've seen this countless times down there in the early Spring... All is well, not to worry...

It makes sense you could catch fish around the algae. Shad eat algae and bass eat shad.

Hey, great idea! So I did, and they positively identified it as their dock.

Been to Cland since 1994 and first I done ever done seened it. Thanks. Learned something. Got some text messages from close friends that confirmed it too.

Ever time I think I know Cumberland, I learn something new.

For a while there, I thought some houseboat had a porta potty problem.

    Probably a leaking septic system

Algae need phosphates or phosphorous to grow. Sewage is full of phosphates.
