    Brookville Walleye

Anyone fishing Brookville yet ? Are the Walleye off the spawn yet ?
Was at Lake Erie early week and it's still cold up there, the fish are rolling and biting very slow. Another 2 weeks and Erie should be good.

I've never been to brookville chasing the walleye.........but, I do know folks are catching some really nice eyes at Patoka.

They stocked a ton a few years ago, and then stocked another few million 6 inchers that were supposed to go to brookville, but it was flooded.

Guys are catching a whole lot while fishing for bass.

I'm hearing swimbaits and cranks in deeper water around the top of the lake.....I've not fished for them up there, but I know a few folks sticking them.

I suspect the reason people are tight lipped is because when you're catching, they don't want others to know they are catchin. I understand it too. I shared some info a few years ago about a "honey hole" and now, I can barely fish that hole without having 5 or 6 boats to fight through. Even had some folks here hammer me for giving too much detail.

I will ALWAYS SHARE when I'm having good luck places......I just might not share "exact" spots any longer

    Have fun.

    Patoka Walleye

When Patoka Lake first opened way back in or around 1978 I bought my boat based on the reports of the IDNR stocking Walleye and Northern Pike in that lake. I caught a lot of Northerns but never hooked into a walleye. I have caught both fish in Ontario Canada on Eagle Lake in the past.

I love to eat Walleye. They are good eating and easy to fillet with no y bones if memory serves me right. I don't remember so well these days. So correct me if I'm wrong on the "y" bone thing

Any way getting back to the stocking of Walleyes in Patoka Lake, I hear that they have been stocking them for the last few years. So there should be a few getting caught now. Someone told me that they were catching some up to 6lbs.

Now I love eating walleye so I may have to rig up to fish Patoka Lake for them. They are better eating them crappie IMHO. Just don't try to lip catch them when you get them to the boat. They can bite right though a finger or finger nail and it hurts when they bite you. Pick them up by the gill cover and be careful with that too as it can be very sharp and cut you.

Did I say that Walleye are good eating? I can't say that enough!

    From a Patoka Walleye site:

For anyone who might be interested in what went on with the walleye program this year in Indiana, here's the latest from the DNR on Patoka Lake and others:

Patoka: The first walleye stocking since 1978 occurred in 2008. In 2008 and 2009, there were 5.3 and 8.4 million walleye fry stocked. A total of 20 walleye were sampled that ranged in length from 5.3 to 11.6 inches. All were assumed to be age 0. The catch rate was 10.0/electrofishing hour, while in 2008 it was 18.0/hour. Catches in 2009 would probably have been higher if the lake had not been high and turbid. The stocking can be considered a success as it met the 7.0/electrofishing hour success criteria.

In 2010, a total of 13 walleye were collected. They ranged in length from 6.1 to 14.4 in. Eleven of the walleye collected were age 0. The age 0 electrofishing catch rate was 6.2/hr. The catch rate in 2009 was 10.0/electrofishing h. The catch rate most likely declined due to the reduced number of fry stocked. In 2010, 3.7 million fry were stocked compared to 8.4 million in 2009. The stocking can be considered successful, even though it did not quite reach the 7.0/electrofishing hr success criteria due to the reduced expectations with only 3.4 million stocked compared to a normal stocking rate of 8.8 million.

This year (2011), during the fall evaluation of the walleye stocking at Patoka Lake we collected 7.0 young of the year/hour and 6.0 age-1 walleye/hour.

I would never ask or would I give up the honey hole. I would however send a personal e-mail to help someone out.
