Fuel cells are powering submarines and more. US Air Force recently announced that a fuel cell powered drone flew for 48 hours on liquid hydrogen. Israel has a drone that runs on solar energy and it's stayed up for much longer than the fuel cell powered drone.

My point is that there are alternative forms of energy that can move things around the world without producing any pollution and that are renewable and cheap.

PS: I'm afraid that in the future tracking down these types of submarines will prove to be very difficult. If Germany had a fuel cell powered submarine during WWII we would all be speaking German and Japanese right now. Read about the battle of the Atlantic and the German U Boat Wolf Packs being hunted while they were on the surface recharging their batteries. If they had been submerged it would have been a much harder task to destroy them all.

PSS: An electric powered submarine (fuel cells produce electrical power for the subs electric engine which are very quiet) can stay under for weeks vs only a day as the WWII subs. Modern Fuel Cell Subs are much cheaper to produce than nuclear submarines. Therefore they can produce many more of them which makes me worry. We should be watchful of Germany and the subs they are selling to our potential enemies someday.
