Can't help you with the cats .... but, I used to cast net Shad, and they're pretty much everywhere. I mostly launched at Settlers Trace Marina, so I netted Shad right there in the no-wake zone, just off to the right from the ramp & marina. But, like I said ... when they start schooling on the surface, you'll see them just about everywhere. Early or late in the day, when it's calm & not a lot of traffic has been my experience. They will come up in the middle of the day, but Whites/Hybrids & boat traffic keep them skittish & hard to approach.

Last year around mid summer I was catching decent cats in large amounts on jugs. We were using hot dogs on a small bass hook setting the majority of our lines around 5-6 foot deep. If your going to jug fish besure to bring 2 batteries for the trolling motor (they run out quickly chasing jugs around). We would leave from settlers trace boat ramp and go straight out from the ramp until we reached the first right you can take. From there we would go down to the first main cove on the right. From there we would go back about half way and set our jugs with our cut up bar s hot dogs and wait. From there the fun begins! I hope you all can use this spot and my techniques to catch some nice ones! -drew
Thanks for the help. I am rod and reel fishing and caught a few in the same area last summer off cut shad. They may be spawning right now.
Good luck! I need to get out there and do some more fishing! Love fighting with a big cat!
