    I'm in remodel Hell.....

    So, I told my wife that I would remodel the kitchen WHEN she saved the money to get it done. ALL of it.

    Knowing that she saves money like a whino at Party Barn, I figured I'd NEVER be doing the kitchen.....NEVER.

    Well about a week ago, she presented me with a rather significant chunk of money, with a budget, and a project list. Needless to say, I'm in hell.......sheer hell.

    3 days of Wallpaper stripping, and wall prep.

    4 days of prepping and staining cabinets, and I'm not even 1/4 way through.

    Yea, I will be remodeling for about 8 weeks, but ****, it will look good.

    Here is a list of what I'm doing:

    * Refinish Cabinets ( Hardwood Maple refinished in Cherry)
    * New Cabinet Hardware.
    * Strip/patch walls, repaint.
    * New Granite Countertop
    * Rebuild, manage Bar Area
    * New Fridge
    * New Sink/Hardware.
    * New Oven, replacing single Oven with Dual Oven.
    * New Laminate Floor......

    two can do a job twice as fast as one, the lady is the only one that can be seen working. just a little humor there Geo, I've been there and done that, so I think I may have a tip that will make the wall paper removing a little easier for you. if you haven't tried using white vinegar, get you a gallon and pour it in a bucket and a small towel dunk it in the vinegar, and wet the wall paper in about a 4 foot square at a time. and think about fishing while you work, it makes the time pass faster.

    I'm having a HELL of a time finding a wall oven that will "work" and "work well".

    I have a 25 inch oven today........and I have a 27 inch cabinet that it needs to go into.........I believe there is NO WAY to get a 27 in that cabinet, so I'm going to have to back down to a 24, which will be smaller. That doesn't bother me, but the opening that is already cut for a 25 is smaller, and will need to have some "work" to make it look good.

    No idea exactly how I'm going to work that yet.

    Later,

    Geo

    Well.......I simply could NOT make the wall oven work quite "right" so I pulled the plug and purchased new cabinets.

    Here are some more pictures.

    And some more.......

    Like I said I pulled all the old cabinets, since they simply would not work and purchased a CRAP TON of new ones. Went over budget on my kitchen by DOUBLE due to the new cabinets, but it will look great.

    My good friend Bo Bowers from American Handyman is handling most of the heavy lifting.

    Impressive! That's much more than I would get into alone. Of course if I had a friend who had that kind of experience and could be the expert I would jump in and do whatever I am told. It's good to have friends like that!!
