anybody know were are some good places to fish the lake this time of year. I normally fish Lake Cumberland and always wanted try Herrington Lake. Heard they have floating cabins on the lake which sounds pretty cool. Prefer to fish the section of the lake that is closest to NKY. Also was not sure if there are any fishing guides at the lake.
Thanks
No guides that I know of. Kamp Kennedy Marina/Chimney Rock Marina no wake area is as good a place to fish, as any ... but, you'd do best to fish from late evening on through the night.
I was there last Fri. around 8PM .... limited out on Bass by 2AM ... casting a deep diving crankbait parallel to the bank, over the 12-20ft depths. Biggest fish was around 3lbs. My partner caught several small keeper size Bass, throwing a 7" ribbon tail worm.
Lots of floating debris & logs/branches, in patches of water between Kennedy Bridge & Red Gate Creek ... so be careful if you travel the lake after dark.
If you're not particularly after Bass ... try throwing a Crappie Jig, crankbait, blade bait, or Kastmaster in the waters around docks with flood lights shining into the lake. Crappie, Bass, White Bass, Hybrids, and even Bluegill are known to be working over the Shad & Silversides that congregate under those lights.
Also, understand that Kamp Kennedy & Chimney Rock marinas are "party central" ... so it may be a bit hard to sleep until the wee hours of the morning (on weekends, especially).
Herrington Lake Marina (in McKeeknie Branch Creek ) has floating cabins : Lake Lodging ? Herrington Lake Marina (but, don't "really" cater to fishermen as much as they do the "boater" crowd ... IMHO ... but that may change if you're paying the launch fee, renting a cabin, and eating at their restaurant) If you decide to go there ... send me a PM and I'll give you some tips on areas to try.
