    Braid line with fluorocarbon leader

So, I read the following article and thought I would try it.
Top 5 reasons to use a braid to Fluorocarbon setup | Bassmaster

I searched fishin.com before posting and found a similar thread in the Indiana discussion board but wasn't satisfied but did find this helpful.

Doug said to use a back to back uni-knot. I looked it up, and it's easy to tie, easier than a blood knot for me.
2nd tip is to use Flouro Leader material. Since you're only going to use maybe 3 feet of leader, you should use leader material as it's much more abrasion resistant and tougher, tougher in knot tying too, less susceptible to burning. I still always really wet my knots and pull slowly, but I've not had a knot failure between leader and line since.
Flouro leader is more expensive but it's worth it IMO. I typically am using 15-20lb braid with a 10lb flouro leader. I change it out when I'm down to about 20" left after reties, etc. Thanks to the leader material's abrasion resistance I don't have to retie quite as often anyway.

My question is, has anyone tried this setup? (Braid with leader)
What knots do you use? (1 for the leader to braid and 1 for the Crainkbait)
In your opinion is it worth buying 2 spools of line?
What is fluorocarbon leader? Is it different from fluorocarbon line? (I might google this)

    thanks

I use 15# Flouro for my leader on my c-rig with braid as my mainline. The Flouro knot is that shaw Grigsby knot that he has on you tube. My braid is a palomar knot. I tie the leader with the hook and swivel first and then tie that setup to the braid. I also use the offset straight shank hook as opposed to the ewg hooks.
The main reason I use Flouro is because of its ability to virtually disappear in water.
I don't like braid for anything but spinning rods and when I c-rig with my baitcasters.
Since I don't use Flouro as a leader without using a swivel I don't tie the lines direct to each other. When I do that with mono and Flouro I use blood knots.

I use this setup on my baitcaster. I use about 4 feet of berkly vanish fluorocarbon and I think some sort of berkly pro braid.i use my own connecting knot. It's pretty much 2 clinch knots pushing against each other and the more its pulled the tighter the knot gets. I personally just use the fluorocarbon or mono that I have around as my leaders. Hope, you can use this info -drew

I have used braid and fluorocarbon line for the leader material and tie with double uni knot. I have broken the leader many times when I get hung up and have never had the knot fail.

Do you just use it for Carolina rigs or while tossing a Crankbait too?

my thought was to use it with my Crainkbait while throwing around stumps and whatnot.

I use both fire line and power pro on my surf rods. A uni to uni knot connects those to the floro leader.

I use it on spinning reel and fish 3 inch curl tail grubs for smallmouth and I use it on a baitcaster with a jig and pig or a worm it is very sensitive I use a softer rod when I fish this set up.

I use Basspro XPS fluorocarbon 10 lb test tied to 20 pound braid. I use the Albright special knot to join the two lines. This makes the smallest knot and goes through the rod guides better than a double uni IMO. If your leader breaks, it wont be at this knot.
