    spiderwire flurocarbon problems

Anyone else use this stuff and have problems? I've had multiple break offs and its not at the knot. I check the line regularly and there were no abrasions. Line just seems to snap sometimes with decent fish on.

have never had a positive experience with any of there line.Fresh spool of it lined up and had it start coming apart at the reel.It looked as if though you took a razer and slid down the line separating it .Not to mention Break offs .It handles decent and cast fine but dependable i would say NO.I would recommend finding another Brand line .I am a Die hard Fan of Sunline Fluorocarbon .The Sunline Super Fluorocarbon is about 14 bucks a Spool and i have not had it let me down yet.It is not as limp as the FC Sniper but more abrasion resistant .But this is my opinion and what works for me .

Any line that breaks like that is bad. Had that experience with other lines and stop using it. I do not have that kind of trouble anymore on any line I use from braid, flouro to mono. There are so many quality flouro lines out there that I would switch.

I test various lines all of the time and have found Berkley FireLine Fused Original to be incredibly strong. I've been tying the Fireline to PLine CXX (6lb test in both products) using Yucatan, Bristol, Stren and Uni to Uni knots getting crazy good results. The results show it will hold out to 17lbs on the top end and 12-14lbs on average...of course these are crude tests in my garage using a 50lb digital scale. The Stren Knot is probably the best knot for marrying small diameter stuff but would probably go to the Bristol or Yucatan on heavier stuff.

I've been comparing it to the Power Pro which is rated at 5lb test and the 6lb PLine CXX which is a mono and Fireline Fused Original outperform the Power Pro every time. The PowerPro when married to the PLine usually succumbs at about 10lbs of force.

Have you tried the albright in your tests? Ive been using it and the double albright and like it. As for the OP, I bought a spool of it this year and put it on the reel, made one practice cast with it and had it snap. Then took it right back off.

Yeah, i lost two really good fish today because of that crap. One was easily a fish over 5lbs. I've also had the line snap when I've been pulling my knots tight. Can't describe how mad i was

    Steve,
I'll try to test some Albrights tomorrow. I have tested a few Albrights but they weren't the Albright Specials and were only OK. I think the Albright Knot is really supposed to be utilized when you have a great degree of difference in the two lines you're joining.

My current theory on marrying braids to mono would be this...for panfishing with lighter lines, I'd go with the Stren Knot or Bristol Knot. When river fishing for cats or bass fishing in heavy cover with heavy lines I'd probably connect with either the Bristol Knot or the Yucatan Knot. Ultimately, people go with what they're good at tying and feel comfortable with. I would pick two knots and PRACTICE tying both of them, become an expert at the knots YOU like.

Try a different line, but also make sure to keep a nice big ball of the the thickest, snottiest, ball of spit you can muster up and tie that knot with that big wad of "spit", and the knot, in your mouth the whole time you are tying that knot! This should
    help tremendously.

I tested a few Albrights and Modified Albrights and let's just say I wasn't impressed. The regular Albrights I tied were lucky to hold up to 8lbs of pressure and the Modified Albrights stood up to 10-11lbs of pressure. The Yucatan Knot actually stood up to a 20lb pull on one particular application!! The Bristol Knot stands up to 16-17lbs of pull on a routine basis.

The Yucatan and Bristol Knot findings are stunning because I'm testing these knots using 6lb test lines. The two lines used in the testing process were PLine CXX and Berkley Fireline Original and these are two OUTSTANDING fishing lines. For panfishing, the PLine CXX is the absolute best mono I've encountered and the Fireline is obviously very good stuff too. The Fireline has a way of fraying though if you're not careful, DO NOT pull against the grain if you will or it will fray and you'll have to lay it back down, still good stuff and very strong.

That's interesting. I know Knot Wars a few years ago showed the Modified Albright to be the best I believe. I started using it and have been happy since. But I think your point of knowing how to tie them well and have confidence in them is spot on. I find the Albright easy to tie on the water also, so that is why I use it. That and the Palomar
