    Whats going on at Cumberland?

I am heading down and renting a 60 some foot house boat with 3 other couples. I am towing my bass boat because i can't stand to be there and not have it. My 3 buddies want to fish and i have read the smallmouth aren't cooperating, but are there any "easy" spots or largemouths to be caught? Any place to go for a morning topwater bite? Ill take a striper also, i would just like for them to see a top water blow up and they are easy to throw for the most part. Not asking for specifics, but general areas. I have only been once(to cumberland) and that was walking the bank. I've passed it many time on my way to the holler..lol.. Thanks for any help as these guys never fish.

Wormy unless you are fishing at night this time of year there it will very tough. Bass and Stripers are very deep right now and tough to catch. A few bank runners and dinks will show up shallow early and late and hit a topwater bait or plastic but overall it's that time of year where the bass are slow. Now Stripers are being caught at the mouths of the creeks on live bait in 45 to 60 foot depths and some 30 inch fish are showing up.
It's not time for them to come up in the jumps yet, way to early yet. If you have a floating light hang it over the side at dusk and drink a beer or three and wait. Then fish under it you will catch almost anything, Catfish, maybe a White bass, Walleye, Bass just about whatever and it can be fun. Also Channel Catfish on Hot dog chunks during the day can be fun, they follow those dang houseboats, its an actual pattern down there.

Just some thoughts bro, have fun be safe and go sight seeing, good bikini watching this time of year, take your field glasses for safety......

i have had good luck in the jamestown area throwing something like a chug bug or pop r , burning it across the top of the water in jumps , you have to be a little lucky to find these jumps they are not up every day, i only fish from right before daylight until around 9 , if looking for something besides topwater just to catch fish try a small crankbait behind alligator dock, a 4inch green pumpkin or smoke purple shakey head on stand up jighead is very good on spots around docks or timber.

Stick the houseboat against the bank with the butt out over a drop off. Crank the jams, fire up the grill and the brews, and hand 4 livebait rods off the back of the light with the houseboat spreader lights on. You'll get bit, and still have a great night of partying.

I have fished many holiday weekends at LC. From first light to 9 or 10 est I have always been amazed how few people are on the lake. Will do it again this weekend.

...now you don't want to be around Jamestown/State Dock area.
