From the late 1800s, there has been an active charterboat fleet in and around Beach Haven, NJ. That fleet continues today as the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association with boats available for charter fishing in Beach Haven and Holgate, as well as Tuckerton and Little Egg Harbor on the mainland. All Elite Fleet Captains are experienced and are licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard and insured.
The captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association are sailing for a variety of fish species and finding success on many fronts. The offshore tuna bite is still going strong. Meanwhile, the recently opened black sea bass season has made for limit fishing all around. In addition, there are other fish species likely to bite at any time.Captain Gary Dugan reports the “Irish Jig” is all geared up for wreck fishing and striped bass following a great fluke season. His first charter was drop and reel sea bass action followed the next day with limit fishing for the Captain and his wife.Captain Brett Taylor of “Reel Reaction Sportfishing” has been experiencing solid sea bass action despite large seas at times. He had the Joe Hoffman family out who limited out on black sea bass to 19-inches along with some nice triggerfish. On the way in, they located a site with good blackfish action. Captain Brett notes he is also catching porgies and bluefish. Captain Dave Wittenborn had a solid tuna trip on the “Benita J” for the McCausland group down from Pottsville, Pa. on a beautiful fall day. He had a couple of first-time tuna fisherman in the crew who were immediately welcomed to the club with a triple header in the first five minutes of the trip. It was outstanding action for the first hour of the trip, boating five tuna and losing at least that number. After that, the action dropped off mainly due to an excess of boat traffic.
